This May, Minimal Wave will take an old sound in a new direction entirely, giving Futurisk’s classic ‘Lonely Streets’ a modern shake-up through a remix package from current artists – to be released on MW’s sublabel reserved for new music and old favorites, Cititrax.

Futurisk, an electro-punk group made legendary by their anarchistic records and explosive live shows, mysteriously disappeared from a thriving scene in 1984. With an electric and dynamically layered sound (created with pre-midi instrumentation), the South Florida group left an indelible mark in the crates of disco and minimalist collectors dotted around corners of the world, including LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy (who gave a complimentary wink to Futurisk in 2003 by using ‘Push Me Pull You (Pt. 2)’ on the delightful Colette # 5 DFA Comp CD). Minimal Wave’s own history with Futurisk runs a few years back, starting first by including an unreleased 1982 version of the track ‘Meteoright’ on the label’s ‘Found Tapes’ vinyl LP in 2007. Subsequently, Minimal Wave released the retrospective full-length vinyl ‘Player Piano’ LP to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary last year, culling material recorded between the years 1980 to 1982, with all of the tracks on their two 7-inch releases mixed in with rare studio recordings and early 4-track tapes.

The Futurisk ‘Lonely Streets Remixes’ includes remixes by four of the band’s biggest fans, each of whom have a sound as iconic as the band themselves: Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey), Tom Furse (The Horrors), Prince Language (DFA, Editions Disco) and Complexxion from the UK.

Minimal Wave is proud to present a second 12” single from our French favorites, In Aeternam Vale. This one is in the same vein as the Dust Under Brightness / Highway Dark Veins 12” we released last May. The single features an epic, pioneering, late 80s underwater techno masterpiece called La Piscine (1989) accompanied by a slow, dark, drugged out 15 minute number on the flip side entitled Calling Somewhere (1990) – which sounds especially relevant today. Neither of these tracks have ever been released before. The pressing is limited to 999 copies, the first 500 are pressed on 160 gram clear highlighter yellow vinyl, accompanied by a hand-numbered matte printed sleeve.

Some might think the Symphonix guys would become more and more staid and quiet with age. Not a chance! Just the opposite, on their fourth studio album the brothers are as loud, unrestrained, and energetic as never before – It’s Time To Punk! This is clearly the message of all the 10 previously unreleased titles on this excessively joyful work. It was obviously made for the middle of the dance floor. This is exactly the place where the listeners are driven to by the massive pressure of the bass and catchy, melodic hook lines. The sound is wild and euphoric as it can be, but it is produced in a very considered and refined manner. Showing a lot of sensitivity, Symphonix once again created an album that is full of acoustic textures and rhythmic variation, but that is also an integrated whole with a very smooth and organic character. We’re proud to present a limited edition reissue of one of our favorite cassettes, The Dadacomputer. The Dadacomputer was the first incarnation of what would later become Five Times Of Dust. It was the result of a long-distance collaboration between Robert Lawrence and Mark Phillips who came together during the summer of 1981 living between Bristol and Cardiff, UK. They collaborated by sending tapes back and forth through the mail and also worked together in their respective home studios. Later that year, they self-released The Dadacomputer on both MAP tapes and Quick Stab. Roughly 100 copies were made in total and soon sold out.

We discovered the tape a few years back with great excitement and favored one track in particular, Computer Bank. Soon after we tracked down Robert Lawrence and licensed it for The Hidden Tapes compilation. The track was an instant hit, both at home and on the dance floor. The limited cassette run of The Dadacomputer will be released on May 4th, in conjunction with the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair. It is essentially an introduction to the world of Five Times Of Dust. A double LP of selections from the vast Five Times Of Dust archives (over 15 hours of recordings) will soon follow, slated for release in July 2013.
