I'll Never Forget You

Circles In The Moon

This song is quite simple yet extraordinary for me. It's simple because it’s based on only two chords and a looped drum and bass rhythm. The chords set the deeply positive and calming feeling I had when I played at that moment. 
What makes it an extraordinary song is the melody and the structure. All the melodic material stems from an improvisation around midnight a few weeks ago. This melody alone shapes the whole emotional dramaturgy of the song, supported only by a few other sound layers that reappear at specific times. A short motive extracted from the melody acts as a hook. All this gives the song its structure, whereas the timing was crucial for it to be convincing, i.e. the length and the succession of the parts and therefore also of surprising and familiar elements. It’s all intertwined. This succession is a rhythm itself, getting it right is most satisfying.

Written and lead singing by Randy Arnold, who was our group leader.  
Old tracks from late 90s band Morry and I were members of - Ten Months Later. Morry played lead guitar and I played rhythm guitar and sang back up vocs. The main singer is our friend Randy Arnold who wrote this song. Other bandmates: Yandell Wood (Drums) and Matt Garlove (Bass), along with other friends. Recorded mainly in Matt's basement. Sadie Hawkins Dance was the name of the album.

Your Ghost is Here

When I look to your chair, I don't see emptiness in the way I used to. When you were with us, but away, the chair was empty and cold. now when I run my eyes along its cloth arms, I see, ever so faintly your strong hands gently gliding over them.

When I look to your garden, I feel all your thousands of hours of toil and fuss and artistry. I don't see it, I just feel it, all at once and then it's gone. But the apple tree still feels your cuts, your touch, saving it and breathing on it and you are locked in its fibres and its senses.

When I look at your picture, your face is still, your mouth smiling beyond any pain. Then your eyes twinkle so briefly, so minutely. I blink and it's gone - that sudden feeling of hope rushing uncontrollably into me, then as quickly, drained away.

When I am with the family, we are comforted by being together, but all bereft. This season we drink in life and things and one another, but we all carry a cold spot where you once were. I look at each of us - you put the dimples and the lines on our faces. Laugh lines, worry lines. For each of us you will, over the next few days, touch us all too briefly; warm us, comfort us, accompany us, bless us.

And these tears are not because you're gone. Those tears have dried and blown away. These tears are because you wanted so much to come back.

Your Ghost Is Here (Text By Nick Davies)

I wrote this song back in 2007, when this single girl lived above my condo. She called the cops on me 13 times over the year and a half that she lived there. The first time, I was just playing an acoustic guitar at 8pm on a Tuesday. She once complained to me that she could hear me talk on the telephone. Come on lady, I'm alive. The cops used to come over so often, we started recognizing each other. I offered them in for a beer on more than one occasion. One of them noticed my Les Paul and told me he had one at home just like it. She had me questioning my life choices on more than one occasion, but come on. Can't make everybody happy all the time...
