We met Bukkah in winter 2019 on a session with the Basskateers in Jena. Soon it was clear that we gonna work together on a record release for BCSM. Bukkah is well known for his lush bass music productions and soon came up with a heavy steppers riddim. Instantly we imagined some upfront vocals on this one so we called none other than microphone matador Longfingah to ride on the riddim. Longfingah loved the tune and brought some nice lyrics in his 
style and fashion to the production. Still Reppin' is made for soundsystem dances, shakin' up everything with his heavy bass and gives a big shoutout to all crews and veterans. Flip the record to explore a version by Plug Dub Soundsystems Toni Wobble, 
who is taking the original production to another level by mixing an ultra heavy dub version in a Wobble style.

Numa Crew Burns Capitalism

2017 was a serious year for Von D, with releases on a number of great labels including our long-format imprint Khaliphonic, plus Amar, Moonshine, Lion Charge and more - and it's not over yet!  For ZamZam, Von D has delivered “Over” - a brooding, burning 140 anthem providing serious heat as we head into the dark winter months.  

“Over” features a powerful half-time reggae riddim built from Von D’s signature warm, enveloping bass and restrained but powerful drums.  Tambourine and guiro add flavor while the snares slap, and Meekman’s kete drum rocks throughout, adding a swing and live feeling missing from many contemporary in-the-box sound system tunes.  Melodica and synth skank in unison, underpinning a dizzying spread of analog signals & sonics.

With reality lyrics straight from Kingston JA courtesy of Shamarie Kamar Bogle AKA Digital Sham, the tune is brought to a boil with heady verbal vapors on poverty, struggle, corruption, daily stresses caused by the political shitstem, and the inevitable end of the wickedness that is so prevalent in these times.  

The dub version spools out the echoes and forwards the kete drum in fine style, displaying brilliant filter-sweep moves and reverbs so luscious the space they define seems to breathe.  “Chalice Overdubs” also features gorgeous guitar work starting halfway through, adding another melodic, rhythmic and textural element for much more than a simple version.

Dubwise. Seizing the spotlight for Sub Audio Records' fourth 12" pressing, Vienna's very own Scooped untethers his long-awaited debut vinyl release. The skilled craftsman arose out of the boiling melting pot of Austria's thriving Dub and Dubstep scene and has been actively shaking up dance floors with high-grade productions since 2015 - receiving recognition from the likes of Joe Nice & Truth in the process. Musically rooted in the spirit of Reggae and Dub, the release features a collaboration with acclaimed vocalist Danny Ranks, who's gifted lyrical performance - music with a message - perfectly matches the irreproachable instrumental - a profound Dub cut succeeding in a traditional version style, drenched in tape delays and otherworldly reverb. Turning to the B-Side, the imprint welcomes none other than the heavyweight sound system and musical veteran Dubbing Sun to the family and mixing desk - serving a super-charged signature style Stepper's remix with relentless might. Concluding the record in reflective excellence, label owner and operator Gnischrew manifests his sonic technique through an ephemeral take on the original, inducing a final instance of pressure-assisted meditation at 140 BPM.

Larry McDonald : Congas | Troy Simms : Sax | Emch : Riddim, Melodica, Dub Mixing & Effects | Recorded at Subatomic Sound in NYC & LA by Emch & The Bridge in Brooklyn by Amon | Produced, Mixed, & Mastered by Emch at Subatomic Sound (ASCAP Lost Connection Music) | Shaolin Dub was written and recorded by Subatomic Sound System in the downtime during the pre-production of the "Super Ape Returns To Conquer" album with Lee "Scratch" Perry and inspired by the mostly instrumental African jazz influenced dub reggae on the original "Super Ape" album, but re-contextualized in a Subatomic production environment that includes both analog and digital recording & mixing technology. Percussion legend Larry McDonald worked with Count Ossie back during the inception of reggae and Nyabinghi drumming in the late 1960s, and that culmination of musical influences and spirituality was also in our ears and our minds at this time. The song brings together stylistic elements of current electronic music with foundation African rhythms, dub reggae, and Ethiopian jazz, balanced differently across the mixes on the release. Additional live instrument recording was done in Brooklyn at the Bridge Studio and is documented in the EMC educational video with Subatomic Sound System on live dub mixing. "Shaolin Dub" has been performed live throughout the 2017-2019 tours but never released until now.

ZamZam’s first encounter with the music of Diggory Kenrick was “The Lion Flute,” a wind-led cut to one of Jamaican music’s toughest riddims, the Mighty Diamonds’ “Africa.”  Years later it still hasn’t left the box, and it led us on a quest to acquire as many of his tunes as possible… E3 became obsessed with reaching out to him for a collaboration, and “Temple Duel” b/w “Temple Dub” is the resulting plate. Collaborations with legends including Bunny Lee, Lee Perry, and Jah Wobble have resulted in an extraordinary catalog of 7”, 10”, and 12” singles, to say nothing of producing an outstanding documentary on Mr. Lee, “I Am The Gorgon,” and countless liner notes and production credits for the untouchable Pressure Sounds label.
 
Kenrick’s signature sound is haunting and richly melodic, phased and distorted, lending an ancient-to-the-future vibe to everything he touches, whether rootical collaborations or left-field version excursions. 
 
Alter Echo & E3 and Headland had been wanting to collaborate for some time, and Kenrick’s high-plains-meets-far-east vibes seemed the perfect opportunity to build something truly unique.
 
The scene takes place deep underground, in blackened chambers untouched by the sun, ancient halls where reverb space is the guide and ritual combat is the only way out.  Subsonic 808 bass undergirds a near-industrial mid-range bass guitar groove, stiff snares, stick-fighting percussion, and the melody an ever-present narrative arc through the dark. “Temple Dub” strips down the flute and widens the cinemascope, with claustrophobic panning and vertiginous detuning echoes creating ghostly traps for the unwary.

Back with a vengeance, Cimm returns to the imprint with a highly anticipated succession to his Sentry debut from last year, stamped on a irresistible 2 x 12" vinyl release. Infernal halftime beats and top-notch Dubstep shells, firmly entrenched at the frontier of sound system music and its invaluable heritage. The London-based producer and DJ  rose to swift and significant acclaim in the last few years with releases on institutions like Tempa, J:Kenzo's Artikal and Wheel & Deal as well as notable residencies at Rinse FM and the renowned Fabric night club, among other recent achievements. Now coming to a turntable near you, Cimm delivers four bespoke cuts, primed for the dance and your enjoyment, battle-tested by the scene's foremost tastemakers.

Diving into unidentified transmissions, 'Unknown Caller!!' sets the pace with eerie reverberations and filtered resonance. Amid the faint hiss of machinery, larger-than-life drums set up shop alongside subterranean pressure emissions. Hefty breaks, hold tight! Retro synth melodies keep us on track within the monstrous switch-ups and unquestionably meticulous arrangement, sure to shut down any dance in style. Cutting no corners with the B-Side, Cimm teams up with veteran vocalist Rider Shafique for a dystopian sub-bass onslaught, swaggering militant chants and the apocalyptic ambience to go with it. Steaming low-frequency oscillations bubble and hurl their weight, stripped of all restraints, coveted in freezing harmonies and ethereal atmosphere.  Vibrating in a more uplifting spirit, the dedication to the Jamaican roots of sound system culture unfolds in the Londoner's signature style - dubbed out soundscapes ahead. 'Tosh Dub' keeps it a laid back, with vintage instrumentation, scattered skanks and swirling organ chimes. Taking an ultimate trip through unremitted grit and off-kilter grooves, 'I Am Jack Travis' lures us in with rainy undertones and hypnotic foley sampling. Promptly revealing its true nature with plenty of pressure and scrupulous syncopation, a ghostly heavyweight ensues and closes the deal.
