Not by our own volition, life has forced us all to slow down a little this year. This change of pace is something that Blue Divers — the NSW-based instrumental group helmed by Alec Marshall — have whole-heartedly embraced on their debut LP as part of Bedroom Suck Records’ Private Eyes releases, the first in an on-going series of isolation recordings by various Australian artists.

Their sound — soothing, unhurried and spacious — and first track to be released from the album, doesn't demand your attention; with gentle, feather-light guitar and barely-there touches of piano, pressing play is more like wandering into a daydream. Marshall is happy to move at his own leisurely pace, employing a delicate flurry of chimes and textures over the track’s concise two and a half minutes, and imbuing the track with its own serene sense of time and spaciousness. Similar to fellow Australian artists Matthew Hayes and Low Flung, Marshall proves himself to be an expert in knowing how to fill space, and ‘Wholly’ is music of contended solitude that speaks loudest in its calmest moments. It’s warm, uplifting and thoughtful — emotions all of us have been striving for over the last few months but not necessarily feeling. It sounds like Marshall dreamed up a very specific mood and figured out how to make it real.

‘Wholly’ is out October 8th via Bedroom Suck Records. The Blue Divers LP will be released October 16th and includes a limited edition vinyl pressing of 150 copies — you can pre-order on Bandcamp.
