I have become the tavern, my eyes now filled with fire,  
The dark clouds of my hair have gathered in desire.  
What hath become of my intoxication, profound?  
Life itself, now a drunken rapture, where peace is not found.

Without permission, my lips yearn for thy kiss,  
I am troubled, lost in this sweet, boundless bliss.  
In my senses, no strength to resist such delight,  
In my helplessness, a sin hath taken flight.

First, a glance, a smile, then turning away,  
Countless hearts have bled, in thy gaze they lay.  
Thy every movement, a silent plea,  
In thy gestures, countless wounds do I see.

Through the streets, thou walkest with a gentle sway,  
Like a wine-drinker lost in his careless way.  
Since thy tresses touched mine with such grace,  
The breeze itself hath turned to madness in this place.

Without cure, thou hast healed me so,  
Look how with a smile, thou hast made me whole.  
Thine eyes have raised me, with a glance so pure,  
The remedy for my sorrow is found in thee, I am sure.

In every vein, thy ecstasy flows,  
The worries of life and death now all oppose.  
Since I entered the tavern, my fate hath been changed,  
What once was life, now feels most strange.

Love hath shown me a wondrous sight,  
How fate doth shift and change in its might.  
O 'Fana,' thou hast made me mad with thy glance,  
Now in thy gaze, all things find their trance.

I beheld thee in the innocent bloom of spring,  
I beheld thee in the stars' eternal ring.

O life, be thou brief and sweet, I pray,  
But the sorrowful night shall not fade away.

The fabric of existence, in disarray,  
Yet this trial, too, shall pass its way.  
My heart’s repose was meant for decay,  
Yet even their glance brought harm to stay.

I gazed upon him, and the dawn did break,  
He gazed upon me, and the end did wake.

What eyes hath he cast upon me this day,  
That his glance shall never fade away?

Mine own sight met his, and I did lose my grace,  
I had to leave all, for his embrace.

Thou hast betrayed me, O false one, with thy lies,  
Why does the world itself betray and sigh?

We hold no faith in rituals or prayer,  
But when I beheld thee, God’s name filled the air.

What is life, if it be to live or die,  
To be angered by thee has become my cry.

When thou didst halt, the pulse of life did cease,  
When thou didst move, 'twas as if the end brought peace.

No peace the heart finds, not for a single breath,  
What is a fleeting meeting, if it leads to death?

My life, once wise, now lost in foolish chase,  
Devoted to a heart that hath lost its grace.

What did the eyes and hearts discover, when they met,  
When both sides of me found 'Saajid's' regret?
