At the age of 9 he bought The Double Album by Mauro Picotto, and electronic music has been on his mind ever since. Started djing at the age of 14, only to discover that there was not much room to grow in his hometown Dronten. Moved to Utrecht when he was 20, he found himself dipping his toes in the local club and rave scene. Here his musical journey started to unfold, playing some gigs in local clubs like Poema, Club LUX (now known as BASIS), Dock (now Maggy Malou) and Tivoli De Helling. After gaining some momentum, he noticed a decline in the scene and decided to focus on finishing his study. Fast forward to 2023, he was asked to play at a local party and decided to team up with a friend to play some fast-paced trance and hardgroove. The gig was very well received, and the two decided they would continue their new act; Peter Pan Speedtrance. After a brief period of gigs and radio shows, they felt a strong urge to focus on their own, individual sound, and as a result he started playing under his new alias j. akai. The sound of j. akai is best described by fast-paced groovy techno, surrounded by subtle melodies and atmospheric sounds. He does not shy away from incorporating other genres, as long as the tracks are intelligent, innovative or just too good to leave untouched. His view on music and djing can be viewed as anti-puristic, with a keen eye for sharp mixing, trying to make the most out of a digital dj setup.
