Showing love to Chicago based producer and one of my good friends, 1981 Tokyo. We met this year through our love and commitment through Soulection. We recently linked in LA for a Soulection show and I just had to show him love with this episode after connecting so well. 

1981 Tokyo has one of the widest palettes I have seen on Soundcloud. Ranging from classic hip hop, r&b, and electronic and future beats to refixes. He even has dabbled in house, dnb, and amapiano. As soon as I heard him on Soulection Radio show 495, I knew he was the one. He got the sound that we all know and love. He sent me the the most unreleased music I have ever witnessed so far in my dj career. He said I could play em for yall. This episode is filled with nonstop bangers, all from 1981 Tokyo. Long before I learned how to DJ, I spent time making ordered playlists, sequencing tracks together in a way that felt good to me. Much as an artist spends time deciding how to order tracks on an album, a selector chooses tracks in order to tell a story. Or maybe they don’t, it’s really as deep as you wanna make it. That’s the part that’s been fascinating me lately. In each person’s mix, or playlist, or reposts, they’re sharing with you a peek into their experience, their perspective, a small but tangible part of them. 
All this to say, I’ve started a series of mixtapes, Tape Deck Tales, where I’m recording mixtapes onto cassette tape! This one I’ve done both sides for, but in the future I would love to collaborate, whether you DJ or you just wanna pretend you’re on a  Gangsta Grillz mixtape. Eritrean-American DJ, producer and all-around creative Eden Hagos brings visibility to those future sounds that you can’t quite put your finger on. Deeply rooted in underground hip-hop, sample-based, percussion-heavy tunes, and future bass, Eden’s ear for unique sounds has kept her digging since her uncle gave her her first Fugees album at age 16.
Eden has dropped 20 mix-tapes - the third installation, "Currently", caught the attention of OkayPlayer deeming the young beatstress "a prophet of future sounds". The beat scene and local producers started listening and partnerships with artists, labels, and connectors in the community became plentiful.
Miss Hagos’ love for creative culture has led to opportunities to perform at underground clubs, international festivals, and celebrity and fashion events alike. She has opened for Snakehips, Anderson. Paak, Jmsn, Syd tha Kid, Tokimonsta, Sango, and Goldlink just to name a few.
Eden is poised to bring light to the beatmakers in this movement while uncovering and educating folks along the way of all of the genres that exist within these future sounds.
