A wondrous day to sing and play,
To leap along with the ballet.
Just as the band begins the score,
Two pickup dancers grace the floor. 

Each moving to a tune their own,
Their melodies a clashing tone.
A fugue ensues of rhythmic plight,
A swelling metronomic fight.

Entangled steps, the downbeat wrong –-
How could they move to the same song?
They pause to listen to the sound,
Between the rests the pulse was found.

A simple shift, a lighter stance,
Resolve derived from dissonance.
Now syncopated, hand in hand,
They glide together, with the band.

Their steps once mired disarray,
That found a groove in swing and sway.
Once solo acts with broken bars,
They dance duets beneath the stars.
