With ‘Workhorse’, Jaala lay bare a glimpse of their forthcoming album Gap Tooth, their first incarnation as a three-piece. The track materialises after some radio silence, like somersaulting slime balls in a lava lamp. Part redemption song, part voicemail left on God's answering machine, a memo plods along its own self-illuminating path. A beating heart and warm low-end waves of synths and guitar triumphantly sift through plot holes, emerging with a tender offering of hope. Yes, love can reassemble the soul anew. Love in its pure unhinged entirety, the sort of love that erupts out the arse-end of winter, disguised as all of the wattle flowers.
