I just refuse to keep being unheard just because I am tone deaf. I accept this part of myself. I feel like lyrics are just as much a part of music as singing or any instrument.

What I Believe:

Most of my songs are the words I needed to hear as a brainwashed child.
I’m not trying to write songs to be heard.
I’m trying to write songs that might let others know they are heard.
I’m still healing.

Just Facts:
I was born into a cult. I’m in an Amazon Prime documentary — so no, I’m not being dramatic.
My father read me the cult’s teachings while I was still in the womb.
Isolation from the world wasn’t a season of my life. It was my world.
Formal education was considered a secular sin.
Any music outside the cult’s hymn book was dangerous to me, both physically and psychologically.
The first song I ever heard was “Crawling in My Skin” by Linkin Park. The way it made me feel… terrified me.

What I Did:
I asked questions they couldn’t — or wouldn’t — answer. And I was punished for it.
At 21, I escaped. I went homeless for almost a year.
I took a new name.
I crossed a border.
I dismantled every core belief I was taught, because nothing could be trusted.
I educated myself over the next 15 years.
I built a life. I built a home and a family.
I became what the cult fears most: someone they lost control of.
