Solace Unchained - Luster of Their Heart

In Greek mythology, Lethe was one of the rivers of the underworld of Hades. In Classical Greek, the word lethe literally means "forgetting", "forgetfulness". The river is also known as the "river of unmindfulness".

For the structure of this song, I did something very deliberate. My goal wasn't just about singing a "new song," because that can just be "a new cage of our choosing." It was about actually "breaking the way we even sing to our worth."
​I grew up with the rigid, predictable flow of hymnals, and I felt that structure needed to be "shattered by the newly formed choir." So the disjointed flow is intentional; it's meant to feel like the chaotic process of "reshaping our entire structure." It's my way of saying that the sound of chains breaking is not a neat and tidy melody!

When I showed the finished version to Mei, so she could listen to it for the first time, she commented on the chaotic flow it had. She said it worked really well, but that it was a bit disjointing while she was going through it. My response was that the normal progression I discovered hymnals using was something that felt like it needed to be shattered by the newly formed choir! That I broke the repetition as a statement that the repetition of the Faithbound child also needed to be reclaimed. That it wasn't just about singing a new song (a new cage of our choosing), but about actually breaking the way we even sing to our worth! It's my way of saying, "This journey isn't just about escaping the cage, it's about how we reshape our entire structure. Not being the priests echoing the voice of the "Fold" to ourselves." So, yeah, it wasn't the "approved" method, but that's one of the most deliberate statements woven into the message... I tried 🤣
