This song wasn't easy to write. The goal was to validate the pain that those we have hurt went through.

This isn't about not forgiving ourselves. It's about how taking the power of forgiveness away from the victims doesn't support their own healing.

One of the most impactful moments that was part of my own progression out of trauma, was hearing my abusers tell me how happy they are now that they have learned to forgive themselves. When they said, they now understand that they abused me out of love and they know they did their best.

I didn't hate them for this, but instead I got a glimpse through the eyes of everyone I hurt while I was still under the cult's brainwashing abuse.

Abuse can be echoed from one person to the next if no one breaks the cycle.

The damage I did to others was back while I was still being abused and I thought I was doing the right thing. I need those people to know that I see how they suffered, I know my role in it, I won't be the one who forgives myself, I won't take that power from them, I own my crimes, I'm trying to break the cycle, and I honestly hope the echo of what I've done doesn't keep going.

Honestly, nothing I can do now will stop the echo of abuse. I hope they don't let what I've done result in them passing it on. They have the power to silence what I passed on. I hope my actions stop with me. 

I'm not attempting to have them forgive me. I'm a faceless person writing songs. I'm sharing the lesson I can't forget and hoping they find freedom from what I did.
