“Who Is This Person?” is about a few of the darkest times in my life when I felt like a small fraction of myself. I felt frozen, unable to do even the simplest of tasks. I wanted so badly to change my headspace but my body was not allowing me to. I’ve struggled with many ups and downs due to seasonal depression, a realization I came to about a year ago. In the song, I mention that there are times when I’ve put on a smile although I was relying on my therapist. It’s important that I’m open about this because a song can only say so much. My goal is not to be dramatic or depressing. Songwriting is a form of therapy for me. Without it I’m not sure I would be able to move on from difficult situations in my life. I wrote this song not knowing if it would ever see the light of day which allowed me from overthinking or holding back. It touches on depression and body image which are things that I struggled with in silence for a long time. I say this because I know I am not alone in these struggles. Even if this song helps one person feel less alone, I’d be thrilled.
