Recorded in 2021, I honestly wanted a more fun heartbreak song than my (at the time) usual melancholy. So, LUVSCARZ was born. Naturally, the lyrical content is derived from specific circumstances that one might find themself in, when in love; you try to “split the ocean” and “put a person together”, but may end up hurting each other even further, in the process.

LUVSCARZ

Written and recorded at the end of 2020, two years after mercy was her name, Atlas was written about a relationship that should’ve been a lighthearted spring fling, but had the added pressures of uncertainty in desire and youth. The first two weeks feel like such a rush- a full cinematic production centered around the two of you like a divine play; somehow, everywhere you go, there are lights, eyes, and action, all on you. Whether you’re in Rego Park, under the lights they hang or in Central Park under the lights hung by the divine, somehow, you’re the focus- they yours and yours theirs. How can we be certain when it’s time to reorient our focus? When are signs from the divine really our own production team playing tricks on our mind? If it’s both, where do we go?

Jack Culling is a performing artist raised in Queens, New York.
