This is a track from To Be OK Again, capturing some of my favourite songs as they were writen; with just vocal and acoustic guitar, sometimes harmonica and usually a tapping foot.  I wouldn't say that this makes the tracks simple though, I'd say they're full of dynamics and you can really appreciate the fingerstyle guitar and lyrics.  I hope you enjoy.
  



. SAFETY NET

When you allow yourself to be forced into a small space, ignore your potential and walk around on egg shells.  I wrote this song in Berlin over ten years ago.  Funny how you certain things re-surface at the right time.  This track has Patrick Ytting on piano and and Nathan Thomas on fretless bass.  Recorded in Devon and Southampton over a few sessions. Check out the foot tapping walking bass line and the old-timey feel to the song.

TipToes

A new song that came from looking at a tall concrete tower block and imagining loving someone living up on the top floor.  Pretty beautiful from the inside looking out.  Check out the glockenspiel solo.

The Towers

I wanted to make a song that treads the fine line between horror and comedy.  When something is scary but you just have to hint at a gag to crack people up because they're so up for escaping the discomfort.  Do you want to know whats underneath the floor, or would you rather not?  Check out the organ played by Patrick Ytting, a real acoustic upright organ with bellows and all.

Undereath The Floor

This track has so many wicked parts added by friends, Matt Jones on saxophone, Patrick Ytting on grand piano and Nathan Thomas on fretless bass.  I love the melody line in this song and the way the sax takes that in the instrumental break.  I borrowed quite a bit of the melody from another old timey song I heard.  Prizes for guessing which one.

Wall Of Death

What if most of the people down the pub were killers?  How would we know?  How well do we know all the people at the bar anyway?  
Scary thought, but somehow lighthearted in the song.  I think.  A bit childlike.

Suzie's A Killer

Its the same forwards and backwards.  The idea of living in a more sustainable way as in the past.  
Recorded and mixed/mastered by myself in 2007, I still love the recording and the song.  The guitar part has an interesting bass line I think. 

Aibohphobia

Inspired by Michelle Gondry's Science of Sleep film.  I wanted to try to capture the connection between sleep and creativity.

This Is Time Travel

I was listening to Kings of Leon's first two albums when I wrote this and you can sort of see the connection I think.  Its an acoustic and low key rendering of their sound with bass and guitar syncopation to create the energy.  Ever feel dissatisfied with English summers?  Me too.
