The bond between Sprechen & Black Hawks of Panama is a long one which started when Danny Whitehead (aka Black Hawks) gave Sprechen’s Chris Massey his very first ever DJ gig after he won a local DJ competition in sunny Bolton many moons ago! Skip forward a good 20 odd years and things have now gone full circle with a 2nd release dropping on Sprechen by Black Hawks of Panama and it’s another absolute top shelf discotheque rocker of seismic proportions.

Discoteca-Bisteca slaps from the very get go with the pump-o-meter cranked up to 11! Filtered diva vocals, trippy synth lines and a chest thumping bass line all of which builds & builds & builds before dropping into some serious filtered breakdown action. You know when you need to choose your first track to play when taking over from the warmup to announce your arrival? This is it!

Primero tips the hat to one of the most well-known Italo disco tracks to ever strike fear into anyone that is thinking of smuggling. Lovingly reworked and given the Black Hawks treatment for maximum dance floor igniting when you need to drop a secret weapon. This one does it all…big stuff indeed!

The S.O.S., with roots in London and East Africa, has built a career as a DJ, vocalist, and producer blending diverse house styles. From co-founding the Illustrated Minds collective to working with global brands like Tom Ford and MTV, he is a creative force uniting community-driven music with dancefloor energy. Simkid, raised in the 80s and deeply influenced by soul, funk, and the French electronic scene, is a London-based producer with releases on labels like KMS, and Peppermint Jam. Known for his elegant soundscapes and dynamic DJ sets, Simkid continues to innovate, with tracks like “Young World” still resonating on Defected Records playlists.

The title track, “Certainly Close”, pairs an old-school house bassline with jazzy Rhodes chords and alternating sung and rapped vocals repeating the phrase “you’re oh so close to me,” creating a captivating and intimate vibe. It’s been a minute since we’ve had our head of A&R, Sam Dexter, on the label. 2022 was the last time we had some Dexter deepness to fill up our USB. However, just listening to this sumptuous slice of underground groove, we all agree that “Just A Dream” is worth the wait! Loopy, skippy drums lead the way before wondrously hypnotic keys and a slow-burning bottom end take the groove into overdrive. Next is Dexter’s own vocal (pitched up, to sound female, like Breach did in “Jack”) tells us it was “All just a dream, just a dream” before a delicious horn solo tops the lot. Like a 90s MAW transported to 2025, this is pure jazzy house brilliance.

It's Techno and Tech house with the typical features of this music but also suggesting a special feeling and introducing an Indian touch perceivable throughout almost all the tracks in the compilation.
