He’s the millennial master of all that makes us bubble over with joy while reaching for the happy parts of our day - throughout his discography, Chance reminisces. 10 Day reminisces the days before undue punishment seconded everyone. Acid Rap reminisces a time of peace, highlighting the violence plaguing Chicago. Coloring Book looks back at feelings he felt when he cared what others saw in him.

“Do You Remember”, a highlight from The Big Day, reminisces this summer from the eye of the present, highlighting why it’ll be remembered. Like most recent Chance tracks, the liner notes read off like a Hostess ingredients list: production is handled by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and features contributions from a cast including Francis Starlite (Francis & The Lights), a frequent Chance collaborator. Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie) steals the show, making the absolute most of a hook by bringing an analog, sophomoric nostalgia to the chorus. It’s pervasive and haunting as he ponders his adolescence then reiterates his present as if he were gazing down upon it. It embraces the listener as if they were caught up in shared success with this man that can’t help to keep his feelings down.

The Big Day in general is joyful, expressive and celebratory: it celebrates Chance’s wedding night and his vows, his elation and his physical expression in the form of dance. “Do You Remember” is a record for participation: belief’s crucial, just as Chance expresses belief in his union, but doubt in himself. But as Ben sings on the hook, the summer lasts forever.
