She began DJ-ing in 2019 whilst studying electronic music production. She prefers fast paced, hard, melodic, acid and industrial techno and  trance and a mixture of both genres. She's focused on becoming a successful DJ and producer This is the second time she’s been on the show.

This is Draw The Line Radio Show with Jacki-E, presenting the best music from female producers and DJs.

Helping me Draw the Line this week, with her guest mix in the 2nd hour, it’s Klarabell who’s from Cologne. She learnt to DJ during lockdown, using a pair of Technics turntables and a Xone mixer. 

In March 2022, when club events resumed, she played her first small gigs at the events promoted by BergWacht at Artheater and Odonien in Cologne. In September she played the opening set for Marius Drescher at Artheater and, as a result, was invited to become part of the BergWacht resident crew. Her style is a mix of melodic techno and uplifting peak-time techno.

Her DJ-ing career started after she won a mix contest organized by Oramics collective in 2019. Since then, she’s regularly appeared at local clubs and has also played in clubs in Wroclaw, and Krakow. Her multi-genre sets cover the entire music spectrum from techno, electro and trance to acid. Her record collection is dominated by arpeggiators, Roland TB-303’s, processed vocals and melodic leads.

Last year (2023) marked the 55th Anniversary of Motown Records so it seemed fitting to do this.

Originally done as an album track by The Temptations, they didn't want to be seen as a 'protest' group so it was given to Edwin Starr for a single release and Starr delivers a powerful vocal performance of the Vietnam War protest song.

54 years on from it's release and our world is reeling from warfare in Ukraine, Gaza, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and elsewhere.

Now the lyrics of the song resonate just as much today as they did in 1969.

Jacki-E is a Techno and Drum and Bass DJ / Producer from the UK.. She has two weekly radio shows, A Darker Wave and Draw The Line Radio Show. The former focuses on new techno releases, the latter on music made by women as a counterweight to the gender imbalance in dance music.

She’s played DJ sets in clubs in Germany Berlin & Cologne), and all over the UK.

She’s had releases on UPUK Records, Get Physical, DeepDownDirty, Dead Groovy, Platz fur Tanz, D-Pillar & Nahual Records. My debut techno EP, ‘Melodic Dream’ was released in April 2022 on UPUK Records. Her latest drum and bass single, “The First Step” is out now on Nahual Records and her new techno release, 'Acid Redemption' is also available now on DeepDownDirty Records.

She’s also a member of the DJ Collectives Sisu Crew and female:pressure.

Her influences are the techno, deep house, jungle, dnb and the ethos of the acid house raves and festivals of the early 90's.

Rave Chant was released by Mavic Music on 27th August 2024 as part of a Various Artists EP entitled  "Impressions Vol 3.'

It's a driving techno track which was first created for the Beat Collective Challenge of April 2024, in which participants are given three samples and the challenge is to create an original track in any genre using the three samples in any way you wish.

The samples for this Challenge were:-

The Gregorian Chant which I used in the Intro and the breakdowns.

The Plucked Melody which I used in the main breakdown. I separated out the voice from this sample, pitched it up and looped it through the main breakdown. 

The Rave Lead which is also in the main breakdown and immediately afterwards.

Jacki-E Mix for Midnight Express FM, 10 February 2025

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge of 23rd March 2025 in which participants are given two or three samples with the challenge of including them in an original track.

This month's samples provided by Gary Frank (aka Gairaigo)

Beats - A collection of percussion sounds - starts with a showcase of each sound, then a few bars of them arranged in a pattern. Some of these sounds are cut from DSI Mopho samples. Hi hat sample based on a noise patch from ANA 2 VST synth. Kick is a couple of sounds layered together. 

Reverse Pad - started as a standard Pad in ANA 2, added some mid range saturation and distortion, Soundtoys Crystalliser “great doubler” effect, and Ableton Echo (ethereal canyon) for flavour.

I used the Reverse Pad in the intro as part of the build up and in both breakdowns.

I used the percussion sounds in the second breakdown to add tension, automating the EQ frequency and applying Saturation & Overdrive plus a little Reverb. I also put each percussion sound into a drum rack and then used them as ear candy throughout the track.

Jacki-E - Ro-Loz DJ Set 31-01-2025

This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge for May 2025 in which participants are given some samples and asked to incorporate them into an original track.

This month's samples are from the Ableton May newsletter's featured artist quickly, quickly and are called entertheroom, loopme & urfreakingmeout

entertheroom I used the first part of the sample as a riser at various places in the track.
loopme I converted the melody to a new midi then used that melody with a Serum patch to create one of the lead instruments
urfreakingmeout I used in both breakdowns as a drone sound and also at the end of musical phrases.

Jacki-E Guest Mix for The DnB Takeover May 2025

It’s been a while, but welcome back to Draw The Line Radio Show with me, Jacki-E. This is the first in an occasional series of DTL Extra, the show that celebrates music made by female and female identifying DJs and Producers. 

Helping me Draw The Line this week it’s Caroline Valença aka Amethysta a DJ, Producer and multi-artist from Brasília with a B2B set with her husband, Benicci. The B2B ranges from techno to indie dance and every track is by Amethysta or Benicci or is a collab between the pair. This is my entry for the Beat Collective Challenge of 29-06-2025 in which we are given two samples and invite to incorporate them into an original track.

This month the samples are :-
Sample 1 - Guitar chords in G minor
Sample 2 - Lofi Rhodes piano in G minor (or B flat major)

I used sample 1 as a rhythmic element throughout the track, pitching it down two semi-tones.

I put sample 2 into Ableton's Simpler and played a melody with it, then created two additional melodies for the breakdown. and the second half of the track.
