Back in Barcelona today for the first time in too long! Some of my most cherished memories have come from this city, from raving at Sonar and Primavera to Moog club and Nitsa and record hunting in discos paradisos and too many more to mention. I first met Silvie Lotto in 2019 at a Circo Loco after party and we went back to back despite hardly knowing each other it was one of those ones that just worked. A real synergy and good energy 🥰 This year we were lucky enough to be asked to play b2b again at the opening of Solid Grooves in the garden of DC10 and it was sick so we were super happy to hear it got recorded, so we wanted to share it with you. On the day Silvie fully schooled me! Everything she played was sick and she had me on my toes tryna keep up! This girl is a serious DJ.

Jackmaster - Mastermix 2014

Me and Jasper had a wee (big) soiree at our gaff after the Numbers Boiler Room the other week and hit the record button whilst we were playing some tunes for a couple of hours.

We do this quite a lot when we're inebriated and never end up sharing the results, but we liked this one.

It's comes close to resembling a smooth House and Techno builder until I get carried away with the last tune which is kinda distorted. That's half down to the original Bill Withers recording and half down to the fact that by this time in the morning we were pretty far gone, the volume was up at 11 and we were dancing about the joint ready to go to the pub again. A liberal use of the high pass filter also reflects this.

I was worried I wouldn’t get this done due to gig commitments in South America, but Lost Beach Club in Montañita, Ecuador went out of their way to open up their back room (or “the cave” as they call it) so I could finish the mix. Huge thanks to them as well as all the people who were kind enough to share music with me for this one: Spencer (always), Cratebug, Armand, Ben UFO, Geroge Fitz, Mad Paddy who crashed in our villa in Ibiza, Palms Trax, Jonnie Wilkes and of course Martin Rubadub (also as always).

It's a kind of Tweak-A-Holic 4.5 meets Mastermix 2015 (as I never managed to get tweak #5 done this year, sorry) but it also features a load of the tracks that have been more prominent in my sets this year that a load of people have been asking about, as well as a couple of forthcoming, unreleased Numbers tunes.

The recording includes some surface noise, at few needle skips and more than a few dynamic discrepancies between transitions due to the fact I am attempting to mix 3 decades worth of music and technological mastering advances into 2 hours worth of music.

Mastermix 2017

To say thanks for all your support last year I decided to upload the first ever Mastermix, recorded in 2006. It’s an all vinyl mix that I thought was lost forever and hasn't been on the internet for some 10 or more years, but my genius wee brother somehow found it.

It runs through everything from Ciara, Beyoncé, Janet and Missy to Mr Oizo, Drexciya and DJ Funk - original party material.

It’s a perfect example of how I was DJing when I was a wee guy and brings to mind vivid memories of the old Numbers nights we used to put on in the tiny wee basement of a gay bar where we threw the parties that gained us notoriety in Glasgow.

Live recordings are rarely perfect, so I hummed and hawed about putting this up because on the night i got a little caught up in the moment at times, so some of the mixing is a little rushed, but that's probably why I love the energy in this recording so much.

I feel like it's an honest display of how I DJ when i feel relaxed and it goes some way to capturing the energy of Glasgow (certainly through the lens i see it anyway).

This was a really special night, so thanks to all of you who were there to enjoy it with me.

For anyone who couldn't make it - I hope the recording goes some way to retaining the vibe in the room that you can catch a feeling from.

My set from Glasto on the Arcadia stage from 2017. It was supposed to be a "history of rave" set but i ended up doing my interpretation of that which is mostly the trance i grew up listening to. I don't think you'll need to ask for IDs on any of these 1s.

Jasper and I played around with this tune a few years ago whilst in a hotel room in Ibiza, bouncing samples to and from our laptops, subconsciously trying to capture the Balearic house sound that I fell in love with when I was a kid and the disco sampling house that Jasper’s Dad Harri was playing around the same time… We finally managed to get a version together and wanted to share it as free download - For Ya!
