Following his acclaimed LP ‘Flight’, Tokyo’s Yunosuke Senoo aka Lycoriscoris presents his new introspective EP 'Return Flight’. A composition of organic sampling, caressing melodies, and subtle builds, opening track ‘Walls’ gives way to ‘Endless’, a short poignant arrangement characterised by melancholic atmospheres. Closing out the EP is ‘Leave’, brimming with textural anomalies, the piano-led piece is held together by a subtle kick drum and natural percussion. An inimitable release, ‘Return Flight’ embodies Lycoriscoris’ distinct signature sound.

We came across ‘Gaoulé Mizik’ through our friend Vincent, who, through his platforms 22tracks and Radioradio, is deeply rooted in the world music scene. He showed us the record and said this would do really well with a bit of Detroit Swindle flavour sprinkled over it. When we listened to the original, we immediately felt what our own version would sound like. The original track features the drums and chants, and is a Gwo Ka song from Guadeloupe. Since the record was only distributed in small amounts and came from a private press, it has not reached a lot of people. Versions of this record are rare on Discogs and unfortunately change hands for large sums of money, keeping the record in obscurity. This rework is our attempt to add an electronic twist to the track and bring that classic island folk music towards today’s clubs.

This week Pogo House kicks off a new EP series called Pogo Stamp. Pogo Stamp is a 4 track Various Artists EP that showcases the diversity in the spectrum of Pogo House Records.  ‘Road to Nowhere’ by Sergiusz is the first track and it’s a slice of organic sounding deep house that pumps along with a persistent groove and gives off a cool leftfield feel. 
Fizzikx follows up with ‘Smack It Up’ for the second track on this package with a simplistic-yet-effective 4x4 Garage House vibe. There’s a familiar vocal sample sneaked in here and there but Fizzikx chops it up just enough to work into the track alongside a menacing bouncy bass.    
   
‘171118’ is delivered by French producer Simon Treecotot  and this is a real throwback to the early days of Garage. Think back to the defining sound of  G.O.D. Records and the  Speed Garage elements that played a part and you’ll realise how much Simon Treecotot  has nailed that G.O.D. vibe in 2019. Hi energy pumping percussion, swinging kicks and an occasional air raid siren that sit alongside dark, moody ‘metropolis strings’ really set the tone of where this is going before that militant bassline hits you straight in the chops like POW. 

Last but not least Jay Funk and NJC unleash the goodies in the form of a 2018 2 step garage edit of the Nice and Ripe release ‘Man Cannot Rise’. Jay Funk gets choppy with the samples and adds the signature 2 step skippy percussion alongside heavy syncopated 2 step kicks that are topped off with Intricate stabs to give off an authentic old skool 2 step vibe. 

Covering a broad range of the underground spectrum its fair to say the Pogo House Stamp series has lifted off, number 2 is already compiled and finished and will be due out in 2 months time…
