Off the cuff mix recorded at the end of 2022. Not much practice mixing these tracks so took a little time to warm up but got into the flow after a bourbon or two. Some absolute 💣 tracks to finish off the year in style.

Melodic Journeys Pockcast 06 - January 2023

My favourite mixes have always told a story, uniting the listener with the DJ at that specific point in their journey, at that point in time. The mix encapsulates his or her emotion for the audience to behold, sharing a personal insight into their highs and lows, successes and challenges, which are reflected in the music shared with the world at that moment. It’s something my hero Soul Button has a special talent for and I still play some of his sets from 4+ years ago. 

For me, in a year of multiple new beginnings, this mix is a microcosm of some of emotions elicited during and after moments of awakening during 2018. 

So plug in some decent headphones, turn the volume up and join in me for the first of  (hopefully) many melodic journeys to come.

Technical

After several weeks of scouring the internet for material on the fundamental techniques of DJing, super detailed analysis on what I thought my favourite DJs were doing and lots of trial and error, this is my first mix.

It’s recorded in one session using Rekordbox on a DDJ-RB two channel mixer. 

I’ve tried to use several different methods to blend the tracks; from low and high pass filters, the baseline switch and looping some vocal samples which complement other tracks. The sync button is something I haven't touched (seems to be some difference in opinion on this) so it’s not perfect but I’d love to know your thoughts. For those with you with a trained ear: how are the EQs (really interested in improving use of the tops), are the levels ok and thoughts on the phrasing. For everyone: how is the track selection and flow, does it grip your attention?
