If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less. Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants. There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer. With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’. Belgians Joyhauser featured at last year’s Drumcode Festival paving the way for ‘Fierceness’, a beautiful melody-drenched cut befitting their DC cap. Anfisa Letyago is another first timer and shows why she’s one of the scene’s most highly touted new artists with the brooding beast ‘Are You In’. A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes. Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous.

Keiran ‘Keiks’ McLean makes his debut on Kryder’s legendary ‘Sosumi’ label with his new dancefloor destroyer ‘Dance All Night’, fresh from support via a wealth of electronic music’s biggest names. 
Regularly championed by Tiësto, Don Diablo, Afrojack and Oliver Heldens, the Scottish DJ and producer continues his meteoric rise through the scene, after making his name as part of house trio Audio Phunk.
With previous single ‘Every Little’ released on Pukka Up, 2020’s been a jam-packed year so far for the British youngster, who is looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow Scot Calvin Harris en route to global electronic domination. 
‘Dance All Night’ is certainly a great place to start on that front, with Kieks showcasing his powerful production prowess via strong kick drums, and irresistible rolling chord patterns.
Bringing a real tech-house feel to the rhythmic weapon, the only downside of the single’s warm melody is that many clubs remain closed due to the pandemic; Because this one really packs a punch on the dancefloor!

Following on from their Sosumi Summer smash, ‘Mali’, David Novacek and Yvvan Back return to Kryder’s legendary label, with their hot new anthem ‘No Way’. 

Blending punchy kicks with a truly groove-led core, ‘No Way’ is a funky-future-hit, and follows David Novacek’s previous involvement with the Kryteria Music Group, after releasing ‘Guata’ on Cartel Recordings last Autumn. The Czech-born artist has amassed a varied back-catalogue across several impressive labels, such as Armada, Spinnin’ Records, and many more, en route to performing a special set at Kryder’s ADE Boat Party in 2018. Since then, the European artist has collaborated with ‘God Save The Groove’s very own Stevie Krash, and now comes full circle by teaming up with Yvvan Back.

The latter, an Italian starlet from the area of Padua, has been well supported by EDX during his career to date, even releasing on the Swiss legend’s PinkStar Records imprint. Working with David Novacek as recently as ‘I Can Make It’ at the tail-end of 2020, Yvvan Back has been in imperious form so far this year, releasing 10 singles already in 2021.

In February 2016, Jack stormed onto the scene with his debut release ‘Give It Up’ on Laidback Luke’s ‘Mixmash Deep’ imprint. Huge support from BBC Radio 1 and other worldwide tastemakers followed – setting the industry alight with accolades from all corners of the scene.

His relentlessness, feel-good vibe and tough bass line grooves were shown once more when ‘I Used To Love You’ hit the Beatport Top 10 in late 2016. It wasn’t long before BBC Radio 1 picked it up and caused the record to trend in Shazam’s UK Dance Chart. 5 Million streams and over 50 plays on the station later, Jack Wins was established as a major player on the international house scene.

In addition to solo productions, Jack is also becoming the ‘go to’ guy for remixes: having already put his signature touch on #1 records for Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Alan Walker, Bastille and Jonas Blue – clocking up over 7 million million streams in the process.

2018 is set to be a huge year for Jack: official remixes for Kygo and Axwell /\ Ingrosso, two releases on Axtone and a debut single on Spinnin’ and Tiesto’s imprint ‘AFTR:HRS’. The records from the Flying Dutchman just keep on getting bigger and better as he continues on his victorious journey.
