The works collected on inst.19-20 are derived from two audiovisual installations created during 2019 and early 2020. Titled "A Tree Falls" and "CORROSE", these installations explore and acoustically signify the compositional influence of the audience and loudspeaker, respectively.

At once still and ever-shifting, Vastness Vastness merges expressive ambient loops with saxophone and percussion. This pair of beautiful long-form works aim to produce profound, intangible moments of stillness and reflection.

The album draws inspiration from Jack Woodbury's poem, 'This Vast Vastness,' an oblique exploration of writer's block, composed during the album's formative sessions. We hope you, like us, find solace in this work.

Jack is a Wellington-based composer and audio engineer. His compositional work focuses on juxtaposing noise and glitch textures against ambient materials.

Jack has released the 2022 "Unfathomed Waters" and 2020 “inst.19-20” on Rattle. The former, collaboratively composed with Peter Liley, draws inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s "The Temple". The latter is a fixed media collection of works originally composed for audio-visual installations. Jack's work has been presented in the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
