And just who is The Source??....The Source was a power pop band from Massillon, Ohio that was together from 1980 through 1986. In that time they released one single, one LP, two EP's, and one dance single. Their EP's charted nationally on the CMJ college charts: (#17 and #12). The members of The Source were:

Jack Wyles - bass

Those are the statistics. But there was much more to The Source than just statistics. Those were the days of Ronald Reagan, recessions, and severe rock n' roll reactionary-ism. (A little Source guy could find a bottle thrown at him while onstage if he dared to play anything but Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, or Motley Crue.) But the little Source guys were pretty spunky. They not only didn't play songs by the above mentioned artists; they played all originals. ....And those originals were not about the favorite topics of many of the locals ... I.E. ... sexual bravado, or kickin ass.... They were about love, spirit, and awareness; all done with a tongue-in-cheekness that only four small town Ohio guys could attempt to pull off. They were definitely on a mission....and a really fun one at that. They would hide out for months at a time...writing and recording songs. .... then playing the handful of clubs in the Cleveland / Kent / Akron area that would allow original music... all the while putting out product nationally on a shoestring budget. They were assisted in this "secular humanistic" endeavor by "THE" definitive record anti-mogul from Washington, D.C., Bill Asp. No they didn't make it nationally, but they dared to think they could...and you can hear that desire and irreverence in their songs.

After attending a Miles Davis concert, he was swept into the jazz scene of the 70s. Though originally from Ohio, it was in Miami where he met bassist, Mark Egan (Pat Metheny Band) and drummer Stu Nevitt of Shadowfax, along with many other great players. "Most importantly, I took bass lessons from a "then unknown" Jaco Pastorius. I also spent many evenings in local clubs listening to saxophonist, Ira Sullivan, who inspired me to later play sax."

Jack returned to Ohio and joined THE SOURCE. This alternative rock band put 2 EPs in the top 20 of the CMJ National college charts. THE SOURCE was part of the Akron Sound that included heavy weights Devo and Chrissy Hynde. 

When THE SOURCE broke up in 1986, Jack packed up and headed west to California. He settled first in San Francisco. "It was at this time that I made a conscious shift from bass guitar to saxophone. Improvisation was key to the sound I was striving for."

His next band, IN THE POCKET! was a jazz fusion band that allowed Jack to continue experimenting with blending sounds. It was a short lived project, but the band's album, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PRESENTING IN THE POCKET! was nominated for consideration by the Grammy® committee.

Jack presently resides in Oakland, CA. "This city IS a musical hub. I have my own studio, and have released 4 CD's on my own record label. I supply the sax and bass, as well as the midi keyboards, production and engineering on most of my tracks. I blend samples, loops, special effects and assorted electronic rhythms with the ever present improvisational spirit of jazz. I guess you'd call it  Nujazz. "

Jack also has supplied soundtrack music for 4 independent movie releases, blending jazz, drum n' bass, electronica, reggae, and world music. "I feel a bit like a mad scientist in his lab as I try to push the envelope of these tunes, but what a good time!"
