Khayalan Trio - Espaço Continuo

This is the second installment of a little experiment I like to do from time to time. I call it the "Mother's Mashup" series which consists of songs that curiously go together in very uncanny ways. Most of the time a pitch drop here and a speed adjustment there will be all it takes to show that we are all singing the same song. ;)

This little collection of music from other artists that has inspired me recently and If you enjoy any of it, please buy it from the artists.

I begin with Jim James' first track on his solo release called "State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U)" and mix that with "Dye" off Tycho's latest album "Awake" which is a blast to drive to btw.

Next we have Tor's "Glass and Stone" from his album "Drum Therapy" mixed with James Blake's "Retrograde". No bedroom is complete without James, take my word for it. 

Then we move into a song off my favorite album of 2012, "When Can" by producers Kettel and Secede. Yes, Kettel made it on my last mashup too. The song is "Ringvanes" and is exactly what I'm all about, mystery forest music. This track is complemented with the beat wizardry of Shigeto with his song "Detroit part 1".

The we take a trip back a decade to whom i consider an unsung electronic hero: Cornelius. This japanese producer is incredible and was very influential to me back in the day. He appears here with his awesome watery guitar track "Drop" mixed with one of the coolest hooks I've heard in a while by Ninja Tune's Matrixxman. The song is called "Enter Me"

Finally we get to an awesome energetic track by Machinedrum called "aeolia" mixed with "85-bit" by who could be the greatest unknown producer around: Woob. "85-bit" is off his album "Repurpose" is a musical journey everyone should take at some point. To me, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever.

Using a golden combination of calculated synth work, guitars, banjos and mandolins, coupled with expert electronic programing, the melodies shine through as plush soundscapes for an extraterrestrial sunset. Loci label head Emancipator says about the project, “Each song on this album is imaginative story told through sound. D.V.S* has created a most satisfying balance of beats, atmosphere, and leads, both familiar and boundary pushing.”
 
     EP opener “Something Always Happens” masterfully sets the pace with a playful eruption of vocal snippets easing the listener in. “Elbow From The Sky” kicks the tempo up, yet keeps the vibe cerebral with a driving electro leaning throb. Single “We Could Be feat. Jayce” puts the listener in an elevated state with its pastoral vocals and anthem like expansiveness. Rounding it out is “Holdin On,” a fitting conclusion to the joyful journey experienced by listening to “Comfort Zone.”
 
     With a goal set out of actualizing the blissful beats happening in his head, D.V.S* has been able to create an album with deeply focused intention. As he states “I recently had a daughter, and since then I've taken a real close look at what does and does not work for me creatively. There’s only so much time when you become a parent, but that's a blessing because every move is so much more intentional. It can be a very positive thing, because you’re only keeping what works.”

Earlier this year Desert Dwellers released their most diverse album in the duo's long career. The Great Mystery was the first full length collaborative project between the main founders Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, and featured a wide range of styles and aesthetics from downtempo and psychedelic dub to tribal trance to exotic house and techno flavors.

To celebrate the special release, Desert Dwellers have curated an ambitious two-part remix album full of contributions from some of the brightest luminaries and rising talents across the underground electronic music landscape. The Great Mystery Remixes Part 1 is slated for a September 21st release, and features sonic reinterpretations from Gaudi, Liquid Stranger, Hibernation, An-ten-nae, Kaminanda, AtYya, Tribone, Twin Shape, Land Switcher, Drumspyder, and Govinda. The second part will be released in late October with contributions from Emancipator, Whitebear, Sixis, Mystral, Supersillyus, Halfred, Master Minded, and many others. With artists from across the globe and musical genres, these carefully crafting renditions of Desert Dwellers' The Great Mystery are a potent combination of immersive soundscapes that pay a loving tribute to the original compositions.

Kosh Anade - Rivers

I wrote the original music for this song years ago and could only come up with one line "Lead me into, show me what you got". My friend Charis actually came up with that lyric (to give her credit where credit is due) but we were never able to develop any other lyrics. I wanted a song that invited the listener into a deep sensual place of surrender. With all our effort, we just couldn't find the words. I tried several other vocalists but nothing stuck. 

Several months ago, I had given Nadine (Colibri) a folder of instrumentals that I hadn't released. One day, she surprised me and sent her first take at what was to become "Into Your Wild". Her voice is enchanting, and her choice of melodies and harmonies were exactly what this song needed to give it the breath that it now contains. It has been a pleasure writing songs with her and we have three more in the works, including a new original song/collaboration between myself, Colibri and Phutureprimitive (coming very soon). 

I hope this song....takes you....into your wild.

Flares At Dawn

This track is from a jam I had recently with two of my closest pals @stroelliot and @felixfast4ward. We hung out all night just free-styling and improvising and this is one of the ideas that came out. Stro jumped on the keys and started playing that spaced out melody, then Felix joined in with some live drum pad insanity. I manged to find a lovely little vocal sample to lay on top that brought the whole thing together. I decided to put this out because I really enjoy listening to it, and I hope that you will too!

Wings Of Waves (Emancipator Remix)

Here is a beautiful new tune which came into being quite spontaneously like a flash of noetic lightning in the wake of some beautifully serene experiences in Seattle and the Cascade mountains.

It was a lot of fun and a real honor to feature vocal contributions from my friends Theo and Amma (Entheo - https://soundcloud.com/entheo), as well as Theo's guitar and a few percussive samples from my friend Jules O'Keefe.

I haven't given out a new free track in a while, and I think this is a breakthrough and a new direction for me, so I am going out on a limb and allowing this tune to spread how it may, in good faith that it will touch as many lives as possible.
