Kito Jempere will be a new name to many with only a handful of productions and remixes under his belt but that's the way we like to do it here and we're proud to play a small part in helping introduce his production prowess to a wider audience. The St. Petersburg native came to our attention following an invite for Jimpster to play at one of his legendary outdoor summer parties in his home town. A friendship was born and when the brilliant demos arrived in the mail, it wasn't a hard decision to agree to release them.

Confusion kicks off the EP in a blaze of rattling percussion, layers of cowbells building the groove whilst the glitchy pads shift in unison with the thick moogy bass. Extra splashes of crash and live snare rolls add a sample-heavy energy and enhance the live feel laying down the foundation for the vocal sample. This one is the perfect moodsetter with the constantly moving chord progression keeping your interest and the fat, analogue production adding extra warmth to the sound.

I Get This Feeling follows, treading a similar sonic path with hints of live breaks and percussion loops injecting movement into the loping house groove. Dubbed out vocals and horn samples add a definite mid-nineties feel to this one with a nod to Guidance or UK labels DIY and Paper shining through.

Flipping over we have a whopper of a remix from Jacob Korn who has been on our remixer hitlist ever since his She release blew us away in 2011. The German producer has been killing it with every remix and original production since then so we were over the moon when we heard he loved the original track and would be happy to get involved. As it turned out we got not one but two absolute beauties from him. The vinyl version bounces along perfectly over it's nine and a half minutes remaining deeper than deep yet keeping maximum energy flowing with the Wild Pitch-esque vocal stabs and dramatic build ups and breakdowns.

The digital bonus version offers a completely different vibe with Jacob opting for a straighter groove, an intense repeating bass note and layers of stabs all making for complete dancefloor ecstacy. Tried and tested by Jimpster on his Boiler Room set and recent live gigs and looking set to becaome the secret weapon of many in the coming months.

Ever since Jacob Korn’s scorching debut on Running Back, where his “I Like The Sun (But Not On LCD’s)” burned his name into minds like the aforementioned celestial sphere into retinas, he’s steadily been adding to his impressive discography, notching up releases for Permanent Vacation, Dolly and Uncanny Valley to name just a few. Although his presence was immediately felt with his first release, he had in fact been around under alternate nom de plumes for several years. His Granufunk alias under which he first started producing seems worlds away from his current material, the electronica cum-hip hop beginnings were experimental and decidedly less polished than his more recent releases. Under his own name, he has impressed with a stream of disco, house, and techno that straddles all of those sounds, landing him in the crates of disc jocks across the board. Keeping active within the Dresden scene where is based, he not only extends a philanthropic branch of knowledge to kids through music workshops but also helps run the Uncanny Valley label. The fifth release on Dresden-based label Uncanny Valley is the first artist-EP and with Jacob Korn and his She EP one of the artists that contributed to the label from the very beginning provides a great start for the new series. Last year the eponymous “She” has already made the summer even more thrilling when Jacob played it in his live set. What begins pretty gloomy with a rumbling bass line and a harsh kick drum turns out to be an irresistible catchy tune for all open-air dance floors 2011 as soon as the distinctive marimba figure is introduced. And when the rhapsodical strings come in, it feels like all dancers are united under the same seventh heaven. On “Once love” Minimal Music-like winds and piano motives merge together with a whipping drum-foundation to an almost hymnic House manifest. 
One the flipside “She” gets the remix treatment from Berlin’s Iron Curtis and Spain’s John Talabot. Iron Curtis dampens the original’s euphoria by only implying the strings and the marimba. His version takes its strength out of Mr. Curtis unmistakable, constantly changing synths and drums. John Talabot toughen things up with cosmic and meandering synthesizers and a humming bass line. The result is a journey through the night that recalls Psychedelic and early Electronics.

Uncanny Valley and Permanent Vacation are joining forces for an Uncanny Vacation! There has always been a lively exchange between Dresden and Munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release.

The record starts off with Permanent Vacation-regular and UK-veteran DMX Krew and his “Astro Logical” which is as sharp and crisp as Electro can go. The bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. After that, Uncanny Valley’s Sandrow M finally gives access to the much in demand live version of “Prayervan”, a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets.

On the flipside, Jacob Korn (who already released on both labels) hands in “Eieiei” which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid House stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. Last but not least, Drvg Cvltvre from the Netherlands delivers a tropical House jam. “See You Again” is riding on a funky Disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas.

Alexander Dorn aka Credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record’s sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

...Jacob Korn also turns in a noteworthy remix, his broad, enveloping house chords adding a certain warmth absent from the other mixes, though that said he manages to keep things pretty tough as well. Neville Watson’s dub, although perfectly competent as a production fails to hit the spot as it lacks the grit and unforced sense of authenticity that is more easily conveyed on the other tracks. Despite this superfluous moment, Gerd &amp; Elbee’sH.O.U.S.E. not only dodges the cliché bullet, but earns its authentic credentials with ease.

Marbert Rocel, the East German indie pop’n’jazz sensation and live band just brought their third album “Small Hours” to life, capturing a deep sense for beats, smoking, songs, indie pop trips including leftfield house- and jazzy affairs. As Groove magazine wrote “...an album finally progressed their own stunning charm into a higher sphere of danceable indie pop”. Well, it’s true, Marbert Rocel music is light and sunny, but they working hard with patience, belief, a lot of cigarettes, and dozens of live gigs around Europe, to spread their charm with passion and a wicked glints in their eyes. There is this lack of pretention in their music which everybody loves, actually people from the techno, soul, jazz or pop worlds even all seems to be convinced.

J.M.F., wer? Jacob Korn, Good Guy Mikesh und Filburt stecken hinter der Abkürzung. Und ihre Kollaboration kommt auf einem Label heraus, das für alle beteiligten wichtig war.

2009 war es das Münchner Label Permanent Vacation, das »Someone Told Me« von Good Guy Mikesh &amp; Filburt veröffentlichte. Im Nachhinein wahrscheinlich der Ausgangspunkt für das was dann für die beiden folgen sollte. Und auch den Dresdner Jacob Korn hatte Permenant Vacation früh im Blick und holte ihn auf verschiedene Compilations. Im letzten Jahr trafen sich alle drei im Studio von Jacob Korn. Dass die beiden Tracks aus der Session nun bei Permanent Vacation herauskommen, könnte also kaum passender sein.

Nicht selten mutieren solche Zusammenspiele zu Materialschlachten. »Philipp Dolphia« ist aber frei davon. Ein unaufgeregtes House-Stück mit kurz durchlaufenden Flötenparts und Streichern im Hintergrund. Filburts Stimme ist weit runtergepitcht und auf eine Silbe reduziert. Eine für Korn typische trockene Bassdrum hier, eine Mikesh-Filburt-Bassline da – fein verzahnte Charaktere.

»At The Ranch«, das zweite Stück, ist vom Tempo her und den elegisch schwirrenden Snythies und Pianos schon etwas stärker dem Sound der beiden Leipziger zuzuschreiben. Auch wenn es hier keinerlei Versus-Gedanken auszuloten gilt. Sicherlich sind die Stücke aus Skizzen entstanden, die dann jeder bei sich weiter ausformuliert hat.

Phillip Lauer nimmt »At The Ranch« mehr auf die Disco-Spur mit seinem Remix. Analoger klingend als Original. Aber mit einer ähnlichen Verspultheit.

Jacob Korn from Dresden, Germany was born in the early 80's. His sound is influenced by Kraftwerk and the sound of 90's techno and house music. He has been producing electronic music of different flavours for what seems like an eternity. Early on in his career he combined Hip Hop and Techno with elements of Jazz and weird electronics under the Granufunk moniker.

Once he turned his attention to more classical but versatile house and techno stylings he chose to go by his given name. Jacob Korn continually experiments in new recordingstyles and production techniques, while developing his own music tools for cross mediaarts and interactive performances.
