Jellyfish Nebula - In The Void (Demo)

I decided that "Space Agent Spliff" deserved a better take, so here it is take 4 & 5, considerably better, but still a very raw sketch.

A very raw first take sketch to a screwed little tune, played on my 4 string Ibanez GSRM20B Mikro Bass, that I named "Dud Bottomfeeder", tuned in B standard tuning (as in an octave above the 4 lower strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning).

Exactly as recorded, no post production or editing.

Played on my 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, that I named "Mr. Growly - The Noodlemancer", tuned in G# standard tuning (as in one half step bellow the 4 upper strings of a 6 string bas in regular B standard tuning, plus a high E string), through my "amp-less" setup, directly into a hand held Zoom recorder.

So I put on Syd Barrett's spectacles, and this is what happened... 

As one of the fathers of psych folk and lo-fi, here's an improvised instrumental lo-fi psychedelic folk piece in honor of the genius that is Syd Barrett.

First take improvisation, played on my 28.6" scale 4 string Ibanez GSRM20B Mikro Bass, equipped with just a single bridge EMG Geezer Butler J pickup, from the P/J set, wired directly to the output jack socket, and tuned in B standard tuning (baritone tuning), recorded through my "amp-less" setup directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor.

Here's a sample of the Boss XS-1 used for obtaining an effect somewhat similar to that of an 8 string octave course bass, using my 28.6" scale Ibanez GSRM25 Mikto Bass, tuned to E standard tuning (E to C).

Just random noodling through my "amp-less" setup, directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, with nothing additionally done post recording, other than clipping/cutting some parts out.

Single track 1st take recording, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned to E standard tuning, recorded through my "amp-less" setup, directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, only edited using a simple Wav editor.

Another sound test of the new Boss XS-1 pitchshifter, testing octave down and octave up respectively blended with dry signal, on my 28.5" scale tenor bass (reverse orientation middle/bridge P pickup), tuned in A standard tuning, seeking to emulate a somewhat 8 string octave course bass -esque effect.

Boss XS-1 : Oct Down/Oct Up - Tenor Bass A Tuning

Another sound test of the new Boss XS-1 pitchshifter, testing octave down and octave up respectively blended with dry signal, on my 5 string 28.6" scale tenor bass (bridge J pickup), tuned in E standard tuning, seeking to emulate a somewhat 8 string octave course bass -esque effect.

Though I avoided playing the low E too much, as it is already pretty floppy sounding on the short scale as is, and E0 is insane, however I did hit it a few times, just for the sake of the demo.

Single track 1st take improvisation, played on my 28.5" scale tenor bass, tuned to A standard tuning, recorded through my "amp-less" setup, directly into a Zoom H4n handheld recorder, and only edited in a simple Wav editor.

I just made up and recoded this little hard rock boogie for another demonstration of how the 1 octave down of the Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter sounds blended with dry signal, this time using a pick.

Utilizing my 28.5" scale LTD B4JR tenor bass, equipped with an EMG Geezer Butler P pickup, and tuned to A standard tuning.

XS Boogie

A new 1st take, but less improvised, improved and more compact version of this little hard rock boogie for another demonstration of how the 1 octave down of the Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter sounds blended with dry signal.

Utilizing my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass tenor bass, tuned to E standard tuning, using a pick.

Also starring is the EHX English Muff'n (Marshall based genuine tube overdrive).

Dark secrets lure in the ocean for the foolhardy surfer, shattering the seemingly idyllic beach life, in this unsettling electro surf metal piece.

Programmed in Reason 5, based on a 1st take recording I did of my tenor bass, used as a full sample loaded to the ReDrum machine in Reason.

Sound test of my bass rig, where I split the signal from my bass in 2 separate parallel signal chains, one carrying my bass signal going into Channel 1 of my Peavey Mixer Amp, and one where my bass signal is send through an octaver set to a 100% 1 octave up signal only going into Channel 2 of my Peavey Mixer Amp, kind of giving me the effect of something reminiscent of a guitar playing unison with my bass, only of course 1 octave higher.

The riffs used are from some of the songs I am working on at the moment for my bass solo project "all I nil", which beside bass will also feature drums and vocals.
