A few weeks ago as I was soon expecting my first child, my father wrote me a note saying that his one wish was that I would take what he taught me as a father, and echo that even further to my son- to be an even "better" father than he was. It took me aback wondering how I could possibly be a better parent than he was, though he did have a point: The hope is to take everything we learned from our upbringing and expand upon that to ensure each generation progresses just a little bit further. 

I wrote this as I reflected on that sentiment and for the wild adventure that was soon to come. So for my Piano Day 2021 contribution, this one is for my Padre.

Bruno Sanfilippo relaunch and revives his acclaimed album InTRO (2006) as a special remastered & expanded edition on CD and Digital. 

The album (65:28)contains its seven original soundscapes plus two unreleased; InTROpolar (7:10) and InTROsense (6:11), taken from recording sessions in May 2006.
These nine records were recently analog remastered from the original master by Ian Hawgood. The cover art was redesigned using the original photography of Helyn Davenport.

Forgotten Postcards

Written and recorded over 2 days in South East London, ‘Carried’ is a collaborative EP from violinist Fiona Brice, cellist Tony Woollard and composer/producer Jim Perkins. The project began as an antidote to the sometimes laborious academic tradition of composing, scoring, revising, rehearsing, recording, editing and producing music. 

Each piece was created without score or prior preparation, relying on instinct, discussion and collaboration, with a focus on capturing the energy and essence of an idea whilst it is still fresh. 

The result is a suite of 5 emotive, meditative and distinctive pieces combining drones, elements of minimalism and chamber music with textured harmonics and the occasional melodic line. ‘Carried’ honours the spontaneity and spark of a new idea and nurtures it, creating a deeply engaging and cinematic sound.

Featured on Sonder House’s Recollections, Vol. 4 compilation, “Silver Fleece” is Blurstem’s first release since the 2019 debut album, Among the Oaks. It was recorded as a one-take improvisation on his friend John Hayes’ piano (who is also on the compilation) - a glimpse of peace and calm in our world’s chaotic times right now.

Blurstem - Silver Fleece

Based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Jacob Pavek first visited modern classical music at age 21. After earning a degree in Music Composition, Pavek released his debut album ‘Bloom’ in 2012 -a collage of pieces written for piano and cello. ‘Bloom’ enjoyed an early success with select works performed by The San Jose Orchestra in 2013, and other tracks featured in the Emmy Award-winning documentary "Haiti Love" in 2014 (produced by Dana Johnson and filmed by Dan Huiting).

Since the release of Bloom, Pavek developed his craft further, honing in on the sounds that come from deep down in the subconscious from sitting down at a piano. These sounds formulated his 2015 sophomore release 'Illume'. 11 songs comprised of piano and violin, Illume feels less of a collage of works and more of a cohesive experience with each track blending into the next creating it's own world. The rich grand piano and Leah Ottman's soaring violin performance make it feel as it you were sitting in a dimly lit, empty cathedral. Illume is a clear evolution of Pavek's ability to write from the modern day romantic's psyche, allowing the listener the relation of their own past experiences.
