To the Floor (Vol. 1)

This year I played my first live DJ sets at our Blazing Swan theme camp, where everyday’s your birthday. We hosted three afternoon parties & I aimed to curate a different vibe for each day.

Here we have the third session - a good ol’ fashioned Sunday sesh! Mostly funk/groovy house, before finishing with some breaks. Left out the last half an hour as it was V messy freestyling.. enjoy!

Blossom Festival 2024 | Friday Afternoon @The Garden Stage

Boorloo/perth DJ Jacob Steenson, better known as Small Boss, is a fresh face on the scene, having bought his first controller (an old DDJ WeGo) at the start of 2024 to kick off his career. With basic skills for mixing developed, Jacob has been focusing on concepts for free-mixing, whilst continuing to explore a wide range of electronic styles. 

During his first year playing, Jacob has been lucky enough to open up a door into the WA festival community and was invited to play his first set at Blossom Festival in September. 

For this mix, Jacob decided early on that he wanted to curate a faster-tempo party vibe, as je has not had many chances to go extra juicy. Fittingly, the mix is a great representation of the Tech House & Breakbeat styles that he enjoys most, with percussion a driving force throughout.

Burning Can ~ a once in a lifetime birthday celebration for two of the most beautiful people I know, out on a bush property in the South-West.

Wild Camp Out 2024 | Main Stage Opening Set

The finale of a multi day festival is always special, yet this one had a little extra juice. At midday I was offered a 3pm slot for the Fruit Party Stage, which I couldn’t refuse..

I grabbed my laptop & hustled together this selection of Disco/Funk vibes, then raced back to catch the last 20 minutes of TDAWG.

I was unsure where the set would end, but a timeless disco classic took us through to 60 minutes nicely. Best of all, my partner in crime was front and centre on our second anniversary.. enjoy folks :)

Small in stature, but big when it comes to energy. Small Boss hails from Western Australia, where he debuted at two independent festivals in 2024 - Blossom Festival & Wild Camp Out.

Small Boss enjoys a wide variety of genres, but will often gravitate toward feel-good vocal hooks & breakbeat sounds. 

He has developed a love for sets that move through multiple genres, inspired by artists such as Four Tet, and is looking forward to adopting this approach in April at @blazing-swan (WA’s annual regional burn).

Blazing Swan 2025 | Mad Monday @Funkazba

TBC has quickly become one of my favourite camps at @blazing-swan 
thanks to the cosy environment created by their talented team.
