I'm Bennett Welch, also commonly known as "Benny," which is where my artist name "Benny the Good Man" comes from. I am a singer-songwriter from the hub of North East Oregon, aka La Grande. I strive to create raw, emotional, and heartfelt folk music that expresses various aspects of the human experience. I combine this with unconventional song structures, various tunings, as well as unique fingerstyle patterns to give my songs an edge that is well... unique to me!

Right now, I am working on my two-part "Requiem for the Lost Ego" album series. These two albums revolve around the process of losing one's previous sense of identity, the existential crisis that ensues, and then the spiritual evolution that comes after it. Losing one's sense of self and then evolving a new identity is not a smooth transition by any means nor is it a linear process. It can be filled with a lot of confusion, existential dread, and even loss of meaning or hope.

But it's not all dark forever, as there are moments of clarity, joy, love, and higher understanding. We discover different fragments of ourselves and become new people at several different points in our life as we go through the troughs and peaks of the human experience. Experiencing life and personal development is in itself an art, and is something to be celebrated and expressed through the creation of art as a requiem for who we once thought we were.
