A true veteran of the underground music and party scene in his native Marseille, Lionel released his well-received solo debut as recently as 2012 (Black Notes for French label Discograph) but is probably better known as one part of The Troublemakers, who had the (probably unique?) distinction of being signed to both the legendary ‘90s house label Guidance  and  the most famous of all jazz labels, Blue Note. The latter didn’t work out too satisfactorily for Lionel, who found himself constrained by Blue Note’s corporate ways as part of a major and yearning for the freedom he’d had as an independent artist at an independent label.

Originally from New Zealand, now based in Amsterdam, Sacha Vee is a prodigiously talented singer songwriter who is currently perfecting her own style of 'Future Soul'. Named "Best Jazz Vocalist" by the New Zealand National Jazz & Blues Festival at the early age of 16, Sacha has gone on to headline festivals and collaborate on Platinum records all over the world. A first glimpse of her 'Rising One' EP coming soon on BBE, 'Hey Sugar' is a sultry taste of seductive soul, perfectly showcasing Sacha's superb voice, which sits somewhere between Erykah Badu and Joss Stone with a little extra smokiness thrown in for good measure.

First up on remix duty is Dutchman I.N.T. (Stones Throw, Brownswood) who delivers a light and languid jazzy broken beat version, reminiscent of early Atjazz. BBE regular Mr Bird is next up with a garage infused remix, making the most of the gorgeous vocal over shuffling beats and a heavy bassline. One half of 'Mega Jawns' and owner of Colour and Pitch, Sumsuch steers the track into club territory with a hypnotic Deep House interpretation, already making some serious waves on the underground scene. Following his recent BBE debut as the producer behind Finnish duo Humus, Akanuke's take on the track is really unique, with wrong-footing, bashy drums and a guitar riff worthy of Hendrix. Closing out the package is another member of the BBE faithful, Bagar aka Tricky D. Dubby electronica with percussion so laid-back it's almost horizontal; fans of Nightmares On Wax will surely find this a real 'Smokers Delight' (just make sure you've got plenty of snacks handy).

Hearing the name “Jaqee“ reminds most people of offbeats, fast Ska-rhythms and dancing. At least those who register her last album “Kokoo Girl“ in their record collection. But now the Ugandan singer releases an atmospheric and groovy single “Dance“, which invites you to let loose in everyday life, to feel beautiful and to be imminent to a special moment. Everything moves in slow motion, even the least moment is being enjoyed. 

The beat is light, floating.... and hard to categorise. You find Soul music, Clubgroove with live-drums, dubby guitars and Hammond-sounds and a very catchy keyboard-melody. A blend of all the influences that producer Thilo “Teka“ Jacks has evolved throughout the entire album to a concept album “without concept“. “The idea was to unite Jaqee and my collective musical background on this album. We didn't want to limit ourselves to any boundaries but just do it.“ 

“Dance“ is about the love of dancing and consequently about the love for music.
