After the Fire

	Sometime— after the fire
	We’ll look down to the valley below.
	Smoke still rises from the coal.

	Somehow— with all the trees to the ground
	And all the birds flown south
	New flowers begin to grow.

	And someday— ain’t no fire gonna bother me.
	Flames that jump and dance— they throw me on my knees.
	Nowhere to run to, fire has got me beggin’ please.
	
	Water, water— rain from the heavens, 
	Run down the mountains,
	Ride through valley,
	And take these flames away from me.

	And I wasn’t the one— to strike the matches.
	Doctor said, “son, hold the flames they’ll keep you warm.”
	But these flames kept rising, and now I’m badly burned.

	Here I am at the hardest part to write.
	There are tears streaming down
	They are stinging my burns
While they wash away the flames.

Sometime after the fire
We’ll look down at the valley below
Smoke has cleared now, new flowers being to grow.

Yeah, the sun is shining. New flowers begin to grow.	

Mother nature smiling. New flowers begin to grow.

Jacob Morris Friedman is a versatile composer and songwriter of all styles of music. He graduated from Columbia University, where he had a double major in music and religion and also attended the NYU Film Scoring Masters Program. He has performed his original compositions at The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, Princeton University, Miller Theater at Columbia University, Weill Recital Hall/Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and many other venues.
