Based in Queensland, Australia, Nerang Recordings has put out music from Interplanetary Criminal, Subjoi, DJ Swagger, DJ Bowlcut, J. Albert, Cassettes For Kids, and many more since its inception in 2016. Reaching five years of the imprint, head honcho Dj Whipr Snipr curates the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation, featuring contributions from a host of label associates and hotly tipped producers for six fast-paced, heavy-hitting tracks
 
Leading the release, Shall Not Fade and E-Beamz affiliate DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads, with Low Tape’s ‘So Delicious’ following, keeping the energy high. 
Striking vocals meet trippy FX and electro-tinged drum patterns across the track, a continuation of the DJ/producer’s releases on the likes of X-Kalay and Of Paradise. 
Fresh off the back of their recent ‘Sportsgoth’ EP, Brazil’s Nørus and Dj Whipr Snipr collide once more on ‘Molecular Collision’, bringing classic 808 kits, acid lines, and squelchy synthesisers together. 

Classic electro sounds meet modern production techniques on LA-based Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, as robotic vocal lines meet heavy arps. Ramping up the tempo, Berlin-based Nasty Enterprises boss Nasty King Kurl returns to the label with a fast and powerful off-kilter jam, leaning on freaked out vocals and tough percussion. 
Rounding out the release, Cologne’s Turk Turkelton offers up ‘Offenbachs Father’, delivering a track complete with razor-sharp drum workout and expressive synth work.

International Chrome’s new Data Planet series aims to provide a platform for the best new and up-and-coming artists on the Electro scene to release full EPs. Each release will come on cassette tape, and will feature a remix by the next artist in the series.

First up is the appropriately-named Maiden Voyage from Belarusian producer and DJ, Viikatory. Her first full release, comprising six tracks of Electro dreaming of intergalactic travel, backed by remixes from International Chrome boss, Jensen Interceptor, as well as UK producer, Cyphon - a Brighton-based producer whose work will appear on Data Planet #2, The Thousand Order.

Hailing from Minsk, Belarus, Viikatory is a DJ and Producer specialising in fast-paced Electro. After hearing music by classic producers like Kraftwerk and Drexciya she got hooked on that sound, later finding a love for the harder edged music of Jensen Interceptor and AUX88.
Only making music since 2019 she has absorbed production techniques at a fierce pace; classical training from a young age adds a harmonic side to her gritty and high-momentum tracks.
Her tracks have featured on compilations from labels such as NoService and Crazed Behaviors. Her first solo release is due out on International Chrome in October 2021.

International Chrome is a label focussing on electro, booty bass, and other club-oriented party sounds run by Australian producers, Jensen Interceptor & Assembler Code. Since 2018 it has released music by legendary producers including The Hacker, DeFeKt, and Amadeezy, as well as the hottest newcomers on the scene today such as LUZ1E, Jpeg.luv, Cyphon, and Dagga.
During 2020 the label also launched a series of compilations called International Chromies to raise money for various charities close to the artists’ hearts. The first nine Volumes have each been in aid of good causes including IRC In Yemen, US Bail Funds, SUFRA - a London-based Food Bank, as well as funding for Underground Music Academy, and School Of Bop - music academies working with young people in Detroit and London, respectively. The label aims to release one compilation every month, with all funds going directly to the charities chosen.

The notorious Glasgow producer, Fear-E is back on Hilltown Disco, after originally appearing on the Dundee imprint in 2019, this time with 4 tracks of techno-infused electro, plus a dance-floor geared remix on the A-side from one of the original Hilltown Disco collectives, J Wax.

Fear-E runs wild, broadcasting apocalyptical electro sounds, creating a seriously heavy-duty record to soundtrack the end of society in worlds not too dissimilar to earth. Punchy kicks, disturbing vocals from the mystical Mike James, and venomous sirens create a fresh take on the sound.

No nonsense electro.

Loïcc elegantly sets the stage with sonar-like nightcrawler ‘Ekman Layer’, gradually locking the listener into an ominous program that is best approached with caution.  

Following up is EEBONE with no-nonsense dystopian aggressor ‘Lost Space’, letting tight percussion take charge while tense keys ramp up the pressure throughout.

The stakes are then leveraged when All Trades fires on all pistons of rhythmic violence for ‘No Delivery’. A seven-minute barrage of detuned detonations leaves only wasteland behind.

From these ashes rises 5ZYL with ‘Absurd Control’, showcasing heavy-duty lows with a deep array of cosmic scanners, all bringing down the tempo while building up the next, unknown chapter to come.

"Friedrich Ernst, born and raised in Dresden, Germany, received extensive musical education through the vibrant music scene there. He began to overcome the gamer boy era with a passion for electronic music and synth toys back in 2017. After exploring the first hardware machines, he started producing and releasing music while slowly learning the treasures of vinyl records and mixing. A new chapter began with his move to Leipzig, where he met DJ Unisex from Dessau in 2020. They share the same vision of timeless electro music and a remarkable old-school style. Drawing from Friedrich's experience, they established the "Self Learning System" label to release music and host events. Since then, attention has been increasing, and Friedrich has refined his signature style by absorbing the vibe of modern electro and breakbeat essentials. As the label owner, he delves deep into the electronic world, connecting dots internationally among artists and labels. Gradually moving away from being a DJ, he is currently focusing on productions and live performances. In the past he left his musical footprint in some local institutions like Institut fuer Zukunft or objektkleina. He released tracks on labels like F.T.P., Defrostatica, Dalmata Daniel, Mind Controlled Rectifier, Earful of Wax and more. Anticipate intriguing output in 2024, including a banging Solo EP on SNC Recs. featuring classic electro, accompanied by top-notch remixes from DJ Mell G & Viikatory.
