Exclusive: Ponty Mython - Onimano X991

It's been a moment since Ponty Mython, Alex Pletnev's anagram alias and one of the many monikers the artist calls his own, drops his first full EP, Onimano X991, after having taken some time off, at least from producing more housier music. According to the artist, he's dedicated himself to computer games, where he found new inspiration in the earlier Need for Speed series, invested into crypto currencies and shaved his beard off. Actually Alex has become an ordinary human being over the past months before joining the electronic music scene again for his EP on Not An Animal Records. Before the release of it in a few days, the artist speaks about the scene in and around Opium Club in Vilnius, that he took things way too serious a few years back, how a bar saved his life and of course the EP itself.

FOGO is the union of two hot projects in a compilation with several Latin artists (from Brazil to Uruguay, passing through Argentina) — this nice mix of different cultures and identities are combined in a unique flow. Scotland's Acid temptress lands a further belter of an EP; Disco Baws and Love. 

Like a ravenous panther, this EP sets its sights on the dance floor's jugular. Miss Represented flexes to new heights in her production with
trance-soaked sequencers and hypnotic filth. Trippy vocals take the listener in and out of last year's bumper mushroom voyages with pulse-driven bass that hits deep in the chest and rolls the eyes right back.

 'Party Animal' sets the tone for the voyage, like its namesake it unapologetically barges through the crowd, bolstered by a bouncing disco beat that kicks in at 1:10.
- Jazzy chords stab soulfully as the backbone of 'Another Time', offset by Miss Represented's unmistakable vocals.
- 'Laviathin' takes a darker turn - minimalist techno with anthemic top-line synth chords, hypnotic percussion, and a subby dark bass.
- 'Trippin At The Disco' dips into post-punk and new wave, with a trippy nonchalant vocal held brilliantly by an electric pulsing bass.

It's a wonder how any form of life survived out here in the desert. The dry conditions and the lack of means of hydration could deter even the strongest human beings; it was no place to set up camp. Many animals called this place home though: there were a myriad of birds that nested amongst the cacti, mountain wolves and lions that stalked for miles hunting down prey, and even turtles roaming the dust-smattered land. Home is where you make it.

Guadalajara-based DJ, producer and visual artist Alf Champion gears up for the release of his debut LP Sour N Sweet on Funcanglong Files, the label he co-helms with fellow Mexican producer Mufti. With releases and tracks under his belt on the likes of Optimo Music, New Day Everyday and Electric Shapes, he now turns his attentions to his first fully realised records, taking us on a ride through sounds to tantalise your tastebuds, from psychedelic slow burners to guitar-saturated electronica and off kilter club music.

Something was on his tail and he didn't know what. There'd been no time to look back over his shoulder, the only focus was to keep up the pace and hope whatever it was didn't catch up with him. He had no idea what his destination was and the streets were becoming increasingly unfamiliar the further he ran. Gasping for breath he felt his body start to slow as his heart rate soared, he'd not though about what would happen when he'd run out of steam, but that time was closing in...

Eliezer loves a good collaboration. The Tel Aviv-based artist thrives when he joins forces with artists peddling a similar sound: the likes of Middle Sky Boom, Niv Ast and, more recently, Ackerman, under the guise of Deadly Weapons. Of course he releases solo too but for his next EP, a return to local label New Day Everyday, he's bringing more friends along for the ride - some old and some new. Affiliates Niv and Ackerman are back on board, joined by vocalists Vongold and Isadora and the minds behind Mexican label Duro, as well as NINAY who's the collaborator for our pick, a sludgy old school acid cut with a subtle Middle Eastern touch.

Emerging once more to grace the world of dance music with his luxury laden oﬀerings, Paradise Palms Records are proud to present the next dastardly release from Edinburgh’s Jacuzzi General. 
The forthcoming single, “Aqua Palace” represents an evolution in the General’s productions; presenting a mischievous and dark edge to his taste and approach. Aqua Palace takes you in deep, with a rumbling baseline, then spits you back out into the hot tub. Using tasteful panning, and a dynamic mixture of sumptuous synth leads, the track exudes hedonism; chopping spine tingling siren samples in along with seismic grade kicks. The result, a track that leaves you ready to toss aside your earthly woes and run for the waves, eager for a taste of Aqua Palace decadence. 

On the b side, IKEA - a downtempo psychedelic interpretation of modern consumerism. Doused in Phrygian dominant scales, droning sequencers and dark vocal hypnosis - Ikea is a tripped out audio delight. Aqua Palace is released 14th of February on Paradise Palms Records;
