PREMIERE: Kover - Broken Communications [Ovelha Trax]

Vief’s next fundraiser compilation, as voted for by the 14 contributors to the release, is raising money for Palestine Solidarity Campaign to aid their work in building public support for an end to atrocities currently taking place in Gaza.

Following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7th October 2023, the disproportionate response by the Israeli armed forces and government has led to (at the time of writing):

• At least 31,923 people killed, of which more than 13,000 are children (Al Jazeera)
• The destruction or damage of more than half of Gaza’s homes (360,000 residential units) (Al Jazeera).
• ‘Catastrophic’ levels of hunger for more than 1 million people and an ‘imminent’ famine in northern Gaza (the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification).

On 26th January 2024, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take “immediate and effective measures” to protect Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip from the risk of genocide by ensuring sufficient humanitarian assistance and enabling basic services. Amnesty International and Oxfam have accused Israel of defying this ruling.

Hamburg-based producer and DJ Beam Control makes his debut on DJ MELL G’s Label JUICY GANG RECORDS with a bass-heavy 6-track electro EP "Moving Electrons".

Having been deeply immersed in the electronic music scene for six years, Beam Control's journey began in Leipzig, where he organized parties with friends. His sound is heavily influenced by artists like Keith Tucker, Anthony Rother, and Morphology and further shaped by his friendships with XY0815, Varum, and Int Main (Yarn Init). Since 2023, he’s been organizing parties in Hamburg under the name „SYNTAX.“
 
The EP kicks off with "On the Circuit," a synth-driven breakbeat track that sets the tone for the acid and break journey ahead. "Electronic Overload" follows, introducing a thumping bassline, melodic flourishes, and robotic vocals that enhance the EP's futuristic vibe. "Robot Science" stands out as a dynamic exploration of sounds, merging dark bass synths with uplifting elements . The track starts with cheeky phone edits and snappy, energetic kicks. As it continues, it introduces bright melodies and heavy vocals, which gives track a special dark vibe. "Distorted Minds," featuring Jetson G, brings all the elements together for a classic ghetto house track, blending uplifting sounds and commanding vocals. The EP continues with Yarn Init's remix of "Robot Science," featuring deeper bass patterns, robotic voice snippets, and a darker spin on the original tune. The EP finishes with „Walking Hours,“ wrapping up the EP with its bouncing synth rhythms and guiding energy, concluding this bass heavy musical journey.

London-based imprint Fragment On Machines prepare to release 'Len Sen', the latest offering from label boss Rupert Galea, aka Jung Latch...Our pick from the release, 'Tensa Violet', spirals into Latch’s mechanical delirium. A semi-metallic thrum of disrupted transmissions and celestial harmonics sets the stage, luring the audience into a labyrinth of ghostly resonances and drone-infused echoes. Stretched-out pulses conjures up a polyphony of shape-shifting oscillations - bubbling synths, punctuated by the skeletal remains of filtered breaks.

Sillon is a collection of tracks composed between 2021 and 2024 in Nantes, inspired by places visited along the way—from the sunlit Mediterranean paths of Niolon to the enclosed spaces of the archives from another world. Each track is a step along a furrow carved through wandering, like snapshots capturing moving landscapes, solitude, quiet rebirths, struggles with technology, chance encounters, and transformations of all kinds.
Sillon aims to bridge the gap between a mental map and a road map. It’s a scar—the mark of passing time, the imprints of regional train lines across the French countryside—a necessary cut, a scarification that fuels movement.

Drawing inspiration from Lyra Pramuk’s vocal work and Mondkopf’s massive, dramatic compositions, Sillon is the result of Mimmo’s deep dives into extreme sound design, his love for dancing to fast, violent music, and his endless pursuit of intensity and emotion. The sound blends ambient, hypnotic techno, nostalgic traces of EBM, and a hint of dub.

The cover features a photograph by Clément Surcouf of Yann Efflamme wearing a clay mask. His face is multiplied through layers of transparency. In the background, a landscape reminiscent of old Windows wallpapers suggests a kind of serene perfection—whispering that the digital world, the world of technology, is where happiness resides. A world smooth, without rough edges. Empty.
Yann’s physical presence, masked and vibrant, sharply contrasts with this artificial stillness. It hints at human intrusion into this void-like technological space—the very thing Sillon attempts to express. My voice, ever-present throughout the record, flows through it like a slow, sticky poison, infiltrating the furrow I’ve carved.
