Jahawi Bertolli is Kenya's first international dance artist, fresh from remixing for Armand Van Helden and a release on Southern Fried he delivers his first solo release on Insatiable. 'Kenya' features on Solarstone's IDMA Nominated 'Electronic Architecture' album in its Original mix, which is proudly on display here in all its understated glory. A real 'gets under your skin' grower this one, no massive OTT riffs, just classy immaculately produced progressive trance music.

'Kenya Nights' is a variation on a theme, kind of a 'Part II' but with its own clear identity. Kimito Lopez' mix is the star of the show though, with a distinct 'Greece 2000' flavoured overtone to it by way of the staccato plucked main riff. Proper quality laid back trance music. To round things up, Lee Haslam does what he does best with another one of his banging Slinky style remixes that will work well on any hard dance floor.

Biography:
When he first presented the follow up to Electronic Architecture, Solarstone promised that in every aspect the Squared edition would be "an evolution". The 2XCD main-line album is out now and has again wowed fans and press alike (with Mixmag saying that it was a "perfectly crafted international journey across (electronic dance music's) sub-genres". EA² has seen Richard commission the world's first 'open-source' album cover, allowing fans to create their own bespoke version of its extraordinary cover image.

Slow-Mo Architecture: With its epic, pacific cool, EA's bloodline has always been as closely aligned to ambient as it has trance or progressive. Now as part of the Solarstone's continuing mission to provide the ultimate panoramic compilation experience he's isolated EA's chillout gene and put it under the microscope. ElectronicArchitecture²'s multinational artist contingent have returned to their studios and summoned a quiet storm of sound, one with which Solarstone has created ElectronicArchitecture² - TheAmbientEdition.

EA On The Beach: Mix1 is fully focused on delivering an unbroken 70 minutes of seaside atmospherics and sunspot sounds. The tranquilized, vocoded vocal of Kazusa & Shingo Nakamura's 'Dice' and the spider-ish synth-crawl of Aerium's Icedive start the (beach)ball rolling. Solarstone has transported the now highly recognizable shimmering sound-set of his latest single 'Big Wheel' far beyond the sunset horizon. From there the ocean-deep re-imagining of Janerio and Sovt's 'Dreams of the Sea', Jahawi's equatorially warm 'From Nairobi to London', Mike Saint-Jules' piano-lined 'Vespera' and the full beat-free immersion of Majera's 'Escapade' compete to out-chill each other.

V Is For Vangelis: The album's discs have two deliberate tonal slants, with the second providing a palpable shift away, towards enigmatic and more elegiac audio. The mystical Eastern tinge of Medway's 'Resurrection' launches the disc and is quickly followed by Piotro's film noir-ish 'Mist' and the long, held, evocative notes of 'Uncontrollable Day'. Further marking the mix's less-chilled, more-filmic lean is the lamenting, semi-dissonant electronica of Daniel Mahaud's 'Winter Solstice', the incredible live percussion of Cassino and Laben's 'Touchstone' remap and Elfsong's ambient re-touch to 'Eta Carinae'. The album culminates with an extraordinarily powerful half-speed retelling of Nick Stoynoff's 'Tokyo Nights' and Alucard's otherworldly (and infinitely Blade Runner-esque) 'Blanket Town'.

With Electronic Architecture² - TheAmbientEdition, Solarstone has delivered the ultimate album expansion pack. EA²'s 2 discs have become 4, creating a truly incredible 360° listening experience.

Just stumbled upon this track which was supposed to be released on the Kenya E.P on Insatiable Records back in 2008 but wasn't. A bit deeper and darker than what I usually made, with lots of groove and bass. So rather than it sitting on a hard drive I thought I'd give it away fro free :)

This track is a fusion of sounds from the past and present; recordings from an ancient rock gong, tribal voices and whistling married together with an electronic, melodic undertone and brought together by field recordings of the African wilderness.

This first track from The Rock Gong Project made using ancient Rock Gongs found in central Tanzania with vocals and whistles recorded from the hunter gatherer Hadzabe tribe where we discovered the Rock Gongs.

Born to a Kenyan mother and Italian father, bought up in Kenya, Jahawi Bertolli is a young and talented natural history film maker specialising in the underwater world. Alongside working in Thailand for the highly acclaimed Oceans Below Video Production Company (where he was one of the 3 cameramen working on the new worldwide video campaign for The Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI) promo videos), he has also directed and filmed documentaries from the remote northern coast of Kenya to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. The main themes being environmental, marine and shark conservation. While a lot of his work is done scuba diving, he is also an experienced wildlife cameraman having grown up in the African bush. To top it all off Jahawi is also a record setting free diver and one of the few professional free diving videographers.

Alongside working as a cameraman Jahawi is also an accomplished music producer and score composer with a string of releases and remixes on well know record labels, such as ULTRA Records (USA), KOSMO Records (Germany), Solaris Recordings (UK) and Fatboy Slim's Southern Fried Records (UK); with whom he was also an A&R assistant for some time. On the film side of things, alongside his personal projects, Jahawi has composed music for the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), The East African Safari Rally and the World Agroforestry Institute (ICRAF) to name a few.
