It's time for our weekly dose of digidub. This one comes courtesy of Turtle Isle, a clandestine affair whose MO is to deliver quality, crunchy dub cuts, and nothing more. These two new bits from digidub pioneer Jahtari (Jan Gleichmar) are fittingly lo-fi and 8-bit, with every sound from kick womp to piano trill buried beneath a staunch bitcrush. Unusually, on this EP, space, rather than oppressive bass, is the place; 'Loose In Space' eschews overwrought low end to emphasise the kick drum, resulting in a stomping rather than system-engulfing mood. Dryness prevails on the B, 'The Stars My Destination', lending dub a good dose of space-funk and slappy bit clap; treating the void with sense of humour it needs

Devastating heart break Roots from one of the most unlikely encounters in Reggae history.

The story goes that producer Harry Moodie met Inge Larsen a white German Schlager (look it up or better yet don't) singer when she was on holiday in Jamaica and was brought to Moodie's studio by I Roy. The producer was enchanted by her and cut this incredible reworking of John Holt's classic. Unlike many tourist forays into Reggae this is a bonifide killer, Larsen's Nico-esque monotone perfectly suited to the mournful roots backdrop.

The debut release from the newest antipodean addition to the Jahtarian stables is a double-LP-length digikal reggae opus filled with gritty minor-key riddims designed to wreak havoc on the cogs of the Babylon system.

Despite being named for a riddim built on an iPod, this album is heavy on authentic analogue niceness – with an arsenal of vintage synths and studio gadgets used to full effect. And with disrupt on dubbing duties in his secret lab, the release is tied together by a lush, haunting atmosphere that’s been faithfully recorded to tape.

Like the furry mogwai creatures from the 1984 film of the same name, Gremlins is bound to kick up rumpus after dark.

Minimal kick, sub and snare patterns providing the heart beat for these two cuts.  'Wharanui' gets on with the same experimental soundscape but puts a little more attention on the drums & bass. I should mention that when we did the remix the artist didnt think there was enough vocals so they added the very loud wails that can be heard on top..
