Owuor Arunga is One Vibe's Global Ambassador, and he is based in Seattle, Washington. His music is inspired by his Kenyan origins and a kinetic global view formed by apprenticeships, playing and performing with great musicians from all over the world. He is currently touring with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in support of their album “The Heist”.

Dadabass (Geneiva Arunga) is a powerhouse rapper, poet and storyteller from Kenya, living in Seattle, Washington. Her social consciousness and ability to tackle the weighty issues of today is fearless, challenging and inspirational.

Shamir is a well-known reggae musician in Kenya that was born and raised in Kibera slums in Nairobi. The difficulties he faced after losing his mother at a young age did not stop him, and while at Shauri Moyo High school in 2006 he begun building his music career.

He is a passionate songwriter, producer that has helped develop many other artists through Wayo Wayo Africa, an NGO based in Kibera slums, with a purpose to provide information about HIV/AIDS and other health issues through cultural expression. He also helped initiate Heshima, a Community Based Organization that emphasizes education, leadership, and dance instead of drugs to empower youth.

Since performing at a One Vibe event in 2005 Shamir stayed close to One Vibe’s growth. His enthusiasm for providing sustainable solutions to problems faced by youth in Kenya led him to join our team. As from July 2013 he has been the program manager that runs our Arts Mentorship program in Kisumu, Kenya.

Kisumu is the title of this brand new music made by Zack Okello a wonderful musician born and raised in Kisumu, Kenya. 

Zack taught guitar and voice classes at One Vibe’s Music & Art Program in the first six months of it’s existence before he moved to Lansing, Michigan with Betsy Okello, his beautiful wife.

Cultural preservation through music is an important aspect of One Vibe’s work, and Zack’s song depicts that by taking the listener through a journey in the lovely city of Kisumu, Kenya. The beauty of the people and the city of Kisumu inspired Zack.  This song talks about how Kisumu is growing fast, the hard work and creativity of the fishermen, and women who use natural resources around Lake Victoria to make a living. Zack also talks about how young people make use of hyacinth, a weed that is threatening the existence of Lake Victoria, to make beautiful furniture. Zack also uses this song to describe how fun it was to be brought up in Kisumu, and how growing up was filled with “dancing to the unique sounds of Kisumu music genres like Ohangla, Benga, and Nyatiti.”

Aloko Toka is a Luo phrase artistically meaning “No looking back”. This is a common experience among start up artists but they choose to match on and not giving up till the goal is achieved. This is the second track of their debut album “Wajango”. The group is set to perform in Finland in mid April.

The Genesis of "Madaraka Vibes"
Simon's early experiences shaped his dedication to humanitarian work and community development. As the Field Director of Solace International and Co-Director of the Young Generation Centre from 2002 to 2010, he spearheaded numerous projects across Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, Liberia, and South Sudan. These initiatives reflect his commitment to improving lives and fostering growth in underprivileged communities.

Music as a Tool for Social Change
Simon's multifaceted career also includes his work as a DJ and producer. Notably, he organized Unite The People concerts in 2008 during a period of post-election violence in Kenya. This experience solidified his belief in the power of music and storytelling as tools for social change. His founding of One Vibe Africa exemplifies this belief, establishing the largest music development program in East Africa and providing a platform for young artists to hone their talents and gain visibility.
