Actor as a track is a bit of a frankenstein to use a friends words. I started this song back in early 2021 in Amsterdam during lockdown and a time where I was finding it challenging to finish anything at all. It sat on my hardrive for about two years before I had the courage to open it back up while I was in Australia. The song touches on a character under the spell of fame who is feeling overwhelmed at the sudden attention. It's the feeling of slowly losing yourself. The structure of this song is constantly evolving, its very layered with a lot of sounds  inspired by many different influences...which I think is fitting with the meaning of the song. It moves from a straight feel back to a more halftime feel which shows my mindset being in two very different places during the writing of the track.

Luck

The feeling of touching down in a city thousands of kilometres from your homeland is always a trip. Thrilling is the word that comes to mind. Although Barcelona is now Jai Piccone’s new home, the vibe of this bustling metropolis is world’s away from the flow of life in Australia. 

After having not released original material for a few years, the producer slash singer-songwriter is back and brimming with motivation. 

“I felt a spur of inspiration after arriving back in Spain…readjusting myself to the way of life here got me inspired to make more music”. 

The result is “The Only One” – a pulsating house runner peppered with big room vocals. As the follow up to “Make Me Understand”, this one’s sole purpose is dance. Leaning into his love of the Korg Minilogue, Jai built the single around an infectious chord progression, married with a soaring vocal lick.

Having only just returned to Spain, Jai explains the lack of gear on hand actually made for a refreshing writing experience. Normally, where he’d spend days trying hundreds of different sounds, “The Only One” came together through instinctual attachment to some of the first chords he sat down to play.

During Barcelona’s summer, Jai Piccone finds sleep and its accompanying dreams an oddity. The days blend seamlessly into nights, the temperature doesn’t waver and the lines between sleep state and waking life blur.

“I feel like my dreams somehow feed into reality and there’s a feeling of obscurity the moment I wake up.”

Meet “Make Me Understand”, Jai’s first solo recording since 2019. A song to help decipher the messages within his dreams.

As a member of the globally-renowned band Tora, Jai’s opportunities to explore his love of faster, more club-orientated music have been fleeting. However, over the last few months, the Australian artist (via Berlin, Amsterdam and now Barca) has experienced his most productive writing window in memory, culminating in a bundle of tasteful dance.
