Abdel was incarcerated inside the Central Prison of Douala for a few months back in 2018 before being acquitted of theft. When he was released he found he had lost everything: his store, his room, his friends. It took him a few months before being able to leave the streets and re-start his life. This video was shot one afternoon in Nyala, on the outskirts of Douala in February 2020; all the children of the neighbourhood came out to follow Abdel and dance when they heard the music..

Soungoula is sung in Foulbé, Abdel's native language and the main language that is spoken in the extreme north of Cameroon, Abel's region.

Jail Time Records is a collective of musicians, music producers and film makers that was born in 2018 inside the Prison Central de Douala, Cameroon where the first permanent recording studio was created inside an African prison. The collective formed a label to produce the music of detainees and ex-detainees whose passion and commitment is music and has the scope of scouting and promoting talent while helping social reintegration and changing societies perception of imprisonment .



Jail Time Records est un collectif de musiciens, de producteurs de musique et cinéastes né en 2018 dans la prison centrale de Douala, au Cameroun, où le premier studio d'enregistrement permanent à l'intérieur d'une prison africaine a été créé. Le collectif a formé une étiquette destinée à produire la musique de détenus et d’anciens détenus dont la passion et l’engagement sont la musique et qui ont pour objectif de rechercher et de promouvoir les talents tout en favorisant la réinsertion sociale et en transformant la perception d’encouragement des sociétés.
