Rapper-turned-singer Jake Aldridge is one of the most intriguing British artists in recent years. Despite starting his career with a lack of natural rhythm, he went on to become an award-winning musician picking up multiple awards in the best artist category. Wishing to inspire those facing adversity, Jake’s upcoming Pop-Country single ‘Down’, is a tribute to, and a celebration of, ‘The underdog’. A title he is all too familiar with. 

At 11 years old, Jake experienced a traumatic loss when his father was struck by lightning during a family fishing trip. The tragedy became the catalyst for a budding career in the music industry as he began writing songs as a way of expressing himself. Having come from a non-musical background, Jake did not play any instruments and singing was not a part of his repertoire. Living in Reydon (a small coastal village in Suffolk) the teenage Jake did not know where to turn for help. Eventually, he began collaborating with local guitarist George Bennett who helped him discover a sense of rhythm. 
	
After many years of practice (and by harnessing the power of social networking) Jake grew his following by releasing songs into the public domain. His singles ‘Erotic’ and ‘Falling’ received regular rotation on Sky’s Playboy television channels. Jake’s music ultimately caught the attention of Dingwall’s owner Maria Kempinska, who invited him to perform at the London Hippodrome where Grammy award winner Billie Laurie said that the young rapper “Definitely has hit songs”! 

After receiving more votes than 100 fellow artists, Jake picked up the ‘Audience Choice’ Award at the 2017 ‘New Music Generator Awards’. He also won the ‘Male Act of the Year Award’ at ‘The International Achievers Awards’ the following year. As the momentum began to build, Jake’s music was selected for licensing by ‘Road Trip Nation’ (a US television series). Whilst receiving critical acclaim for his hip hop-influenced sound, it was the country-pop genre that began to peak Jake’s interest. Inspired by American country artists, such as Kane Brown & Dan + Shay, Jake decided to take singing lessons and began incorporating country music into his songs. The new sound helped Jake to secure airplay on BBC Radio Suffolk and BBC Radio Cambridge. His Pop-Country songs have amassed 70,000 streams on Spotify to date. 
	
Jake embraces the joviality of pop and combines it with a splash of country in his new track ‘Down’. The evocative song is filled with raw honesty, genuineness, and sincerity for the underdog. The track is produced by Nashville based Simon Reid and was co-written by multi-instrumentalist David Edward Booth.

2017 NMG award winner Jake Aldridge has announced the release of a new single, ‘The Underdog’, available via all digital channels.

The new song is set to feature on Jake’s upcoming album, which is titled ‘Inside Pocket’. For this eerie & thought provoking Hip Hop track, Aldridge teams up  with Music Producer Ninety II and the track also features J.J Leone, a talented vocalist who has opened up shows for the likes of Rag N Bone Man & Craig David. 

“I’ve always been a supporter of the underdog. Even when I was a kid, I’d always cheer on the team or player who was less likely to win. I think the harder we have to work for something, the more we tend to appreciate it.”. Aldridge said.

The Urban Pop Artist was presented with the Audience Choice Award in September at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge, after receiving more votes than 109 other musicians from East Anglia.

To date, Aldridge’s music has been featured on UK and US Television and has also been heavily supported via BBC Introducing, even being aired by Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6. 

Aldridge is now teaming up with Andy Whitmore, A Music Producer who has 14 UK top ten hits under his belt having worked with the likes of Elton John, Lemar, and Soul II Soul.

Multi award-winning hip-hop artist Jake Aldridge’s’ new single, Gullible is inspired by his new-found love of country music. 

Due for release on January 6th, the song features guest vocals from country singer Kezia Gill. It was produced by multi-instrumentalist Ben Haynes and artist RedNek, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Tinie Tempah. 

Aldridge says: “I know this is a big change in direction for me, but since I’ve been exposed to country music, I’ve come to fall in love with its instrumentation, as well as the overall sound. I’m so excited for my fans to hear what I’m confident is my best song to date.” 

Aldridge won Male Act of the Year at the 2018 International Achievers’ Awards, and received the Audience Choice Award at last year’s New Music Generator (NMG) Awards, at which he took more votes than 100 other artists. He described this as the proudest moment of his musical career to date. 

The 30-year-old has played on US and UK network TV, including a documentary featuring Michelle Obama, and has been backed by BBC Introducing, who have played his tracks dozens of times, while his music has also aired on BBC Radio 6.

Aldridge was brought up in Reydon, Suffolk with two siblings, and was born to a Bangladeshi father and Canadian mother who met in Wimbledon. But Jake was just 11 when his father was killed after being struck by lightning during a family fishing trip, and this life changing and defining event has informed much of his work since, for example Aldridge’ 2011 single Heaven was about his father.

Award-winning hip-hop artist Jake Aldridge’s new single, Poison, is the first song in which he doesn’t rap a single verse.

Released on August 2nd 2019, the pop-dance track features no guest vocals, with Aldridge taking all the singing credits himself. It was produced by RedNek, who has previously collaborated and performed with Tinie Tempah and 50 Cent. 

Aldridge says: “The truth is that I always wanted to be a singer, I just never had the confidence to give it a try. I’m having singing lessons now and I feel like this song marks a new beginning for me and my music and I am really excited about what’s to come.”

Composed by Matt Knight, former right-hand man of chart-topping producer Andy Whitmore, Partners In Crime was released on 17th April 2020. Co-written with David Booth, Jake’s mentor throughout his transition of rapping to singing, the song features backing vocals by Leanne Louise. The new single is devilishly cheeky, with the change in genre exposing Jake’s mischievous side.

“It’s a huge change, singing in general is scary as hell for me! I’ve fallen in love with Country music though and one thing that hasn’t changed, is my eagerness to only release music that I’m passionate about”.

Struggling to deal with his bereavement, Aldridge began writing poetry. Having grown up to handed down cassette tapes of rappers from the late 90’s, he became inspired by Hip-Hop music and eventually turned his poems into raps. 

Aldridge first became intrigued by Country music when he heard Florida Georgia Line’s collaboration with Nelly in 2012, on a remix for their song ‘Cruise’. Subtly, Jake began to incorporate elements of the genre into his own music. Jake’s song, ‘Gullible’, for example, was very much a hybrid of the two genres featuring country vocals by BCMA award winner, Kezia Gill,

Award winning rapper-turned-singer, Jake Aldridge, unveiled more than just an engagement ring when he proposed to his now fiancée, two years after meeting her through an online dating app. 

Aldridge began exchanging messages with former Slimming World consultant, Lisa Hartgrove, in January 2018 via the online dating app, Tinder. The pair, who even share the same birthday, now have their very own song as well! 

After a successful proposal earlier this year, Jake played Lisa his new track, ‘King of The World’, a heartfelt country-pop song he had written for her.

The music for ‘King of The World’ was co-produced by Argentinian music producer, Dam Dominici, and Suffolk-based, multi-instrumentalist, David Booth.
