Two brothers, surname Summers. London rap duo Summers Sons drop ‘One’, the last single before the release of their album project ‘Still Nothing Still’ (12.04.). Turt and Slim have updated their beloved jazz rap sound with a more electronic, trip-hoppy vibe.

Turt: “I wrote this one after getting beat up and robbed. Again. Last time they had me eating through a straw for two weeks! Fear is vital to teach us what’s safe, but staying on guard is exhausting when your environment is dangerous. Eventually that fear turns to anger. Anger turns to desperation. Everyone has a breaking point; a cornered animal is a dangerous one. And there’s a lot of people in desperate situations.“

‘Still Nothing Still’ will be available digital and on LP on April 12th and is accompanied by a dope short-film by Seb Luke-Virgo

Since 2018 Summers Sons have released four albums (Undertones, Uhuru, The Rain, Nostalgia - which accumulated over 45 million streams to date) and a string of high profile collaborations with artists like The Silhouettes Project, Nix Northwest, Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn, Twit One and C.Tappin. There comes a time when everything undresses in front of you, internally and externally. You begin to learn truths about yourself, the paradigms that form your sense of self and the paradigms that form the world around you in the same breath. In your memories, You begin to see the child who wore the mask you cannot take off. 

You begin to realise that your tears pour into a streaming river that will not stop to accept them but rather they greet the moving currents of the flow. You begin to experience confrontational moments that either fuel or simmer your bitterness. You find no immediate catharsis for your pain and they tell you “the resolve you’re looking for is the passage of time.” 

We lose ourselves to particular moments and people that our minds manipulate time, We simulate eternity. But time waits at the door and as the force that walked you in it’ll also be the force to walk you out. It however doesn’t find joy in seeing you suffer but promises to soothe you before it gives you back to the cosmos. I think that’s why accidental deaths are “untimely” because we acknowledge that time is not abrupt or cruel but flows harmoniously like a river. 

We cry, we cry, we cry and cry but our eyes aren’t waterfalls and our tears aren’t rivers of their own. The light eventually illuminates us well enough to dry our tears. The sun shines on us again. As soon as we accept all forms of pain and experience as cogs in a celestial machine, We learn that even the worst of faults will reach resolve and order will find its way back. We will grow, we will suffer, we will weep, we will be ecstatic, euphoric, we will grieve, we will be zealous and we will stumble and fall, and ultimately as the waters calm themselves and as we age… It ends with a soothing song, a calmness that puts us to rest and reassures us that we will be fine.
