Imaginary Scenes, Deep Space 1: Abandoned Ship

Short ambient piece using only Soundiron's Desk Bell instrument for their 25 Days of Composing Competition, December 2021. The instrument was sampled from a classic push-button desk bell used widely in classrooms, hotel desks, shops, and homes.

Inspired by my own mother's years of experience as a school teacher and school bus driver. She treated all of her students with care, respect, and love. I learned a lot from watching her tirelessly give of herself to help those in need. Love you, ma!

I'll Be Your Daisy

Butterflies for Vangelis

A short duo piece for clarinet and bassoon, inspired in part by the Japanese concept of "Ma" meaning roughly 'negative space'. In music, it's a slightly different idea than rest or space, being more of an active silence – asking the listener or performer to give the silence its meaning. I also used some generative software in the initial stages of composition to help create phrases that were then molded and reshaped into the final piece.
