This is a Documentary Myself and my friend, Jonathan Stone made whilst at University. The piece is about the abuse referees receive in the occupations and the lack of support they receive from governing bodies such as FIFA and UEFA. The documentary also looks at ways of improving the treatment of refereeing on all levels from grass routes to world cups. "Who Would Want to be A Referee" is narrated by Five Live's Mike Ingham and includes interviews with referees both current and former and mangers in the game.

This is a half hour Live show made by a year nine English class from William Roberts High School in Lincolnshire in 2010. Myself and Jon Stone (friend/work partner) where given a project of teaching class of shool children about radio production from scratch. We had take them from a bunch of passive radio listeners to being able to create and run their own live show in just 11 weeks.

 We where told there would 18 students, when we met the children, there where 30+ which made the task of having two teams 9 very hard, though we managed to sort it fairly easily. Each team would make their own 30 minute show and be split up into different sections within that team such as presenters, B.A's and editors, researcher and producer. 

In the early weeks we taught them about different kinds of radio shows and styles. We then moved onto the equipment, allowing the class to practice interviews and Vox Pops with each other in class using Marantz's (portable recording device). In further weeks we had the pupils to come up with ideas for shows and then in class pick the best ideas with Jon and Myself present. Once we had all decided on the two shows (which where the one above about Cancer Awareness and the other a magazine show with current topics of the moment with music, interviews and chat) we had the class decided what roles they wanted, and then divided them up into two teams. Due to an increasing volume of students that where wanting to take part we made a 3rd team to make Jingles for both shows. 

When roles and teams where decided upon we then got down to nittygritty of each show by trying to get the students to get interviews, songs, vox pops, make packages, get to grips with equipment. In week 8 we started to see the pupils more than once a weeks, roughly about 2 or 3 times depending on the work load we had on our course. This enabled us to build a stronger rapor with the children and made working with them so much easier. 

Week 9 saw the students come to us at the University of Lincoln to get to grips with a radio studio for the first time. This children where really excited and motivaed by just seeing the studios let alone using them! By this point the teams had most of their material, and on the practice day of using the studios they pre-recroded some links and from this made up some packages. Unfortuantly by this point we could see which students where flurishing and which where struggling to keep up, however they where all trying extremely hard no matter how strong at live radio they where. 

On the day of the shows there where inevitabley some last minute hick ups, for example on this show one of them main B.A.s was ill and couldnt come in, which meant one of the B.A.'s from the othe show (Adam Dodd) had to jump in and help at the very last minute. Both shows went extremely well as far as we where concerned, not only where myself and Jon thrilled at how good and proffesional the pupils where on air but with their planning and how they came up with the ideas and created the shows almost from scratch!! 

The year nine English class of 2010 from William Roberts where an absolute Joy to work with and showed huge potential for studying media at a higher level and to possibly even go into it as a career! We loved out 13 weeks with these guys and thank them ever so much for being fun, hard working, energetic and friendly!
