You Ain't The One

Jalen Carter is a Tamil, Canadian artist and musician originally from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. Though his music has been categorized in the past as pop and hip hop, his inspiration is deep-rooted in his love and admiration for the soul of rhythm and blues (R&B). He’s best known for his affiliation with producer and music executive Yanchan (Dirty Elephant, Emtee Education), who produced his debut single, “You Ain’t The One.”

At a very young age, Jalen was raised in a household of generations of music lovers. As an only child to a single mother, he grew to love the women of his life; from his mother, to his aunt to his grandmother. In the early 90s and 2000s, while his mother worked hard to provide for him and the household, Jalen developed a close connection to his aunt, Uma. By the age of four Uma exposed Jalen to American music and culture particularly entertainers such as Usher, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake. Jalen became obsessed with these artist’s abilities to bring joy to him and the world through their singing and dancing. He slowly began mimicking them bringing the same positive energy to family gatherings with his own rendition of entertainment and bringing joy to the masses. 

As a teen, Jalen’s passion for music and entertainment grew. Uma began singing and performing in the Canadian-Carnatic music scene and developed quite a following. His aunt’s local success peaked Jalen’s desire to truly become one of his R&B idols. Carter began performing for talent shows and weddings consistently building up a name for himself as the entertainer and the life of the party throughout highschool. In 2016, Jalen enrolled at Brock University studying Business and Finance. Here, Jalen added dancing to his list of abilities as a performer and entertainer.

Early 2020, Carter met pop/hip hop producer, executive and renowned Tamil hand drummer, Yanchan. Yanchan saw potential in the passionate Jalen and agreed to produce his first songs, bringing a team of industry producers to support Jalen in his development as a singer, writer and performer. 

A year after meeting Yanchan in 2021, Jalen Carter released his debut single “You Ain’t The One,” fully equipped with a music video featuring social media influencer, Apeenaiyah Mayooran and directed by creative juggernaut, and coincidentally Jalen’s cousin, Pras Lingam (Black Caper Films).
