Jamahl Ryder is a new breed of indigenous artist that represents Hip Hop out of Perth. Influenced by the personal journey of artists such as Tupac, KRS-One and The Game mixed with the lyricism of Big Pun, The Notorious B.I.G., Rakim and Eminem, Jamahl has developed his own sound and style. It was at age 15, Jamahl started writing his own rap as a way of speaking his mind, laying his thoughts and feelings.
Jamahl's first big break into performing came at W.A.A.P.A in Ab Theatre, there he performed his first verse and learned about having stage presence and becoming the ultimate performer. Jamahl then made the move to Ab Music where he elevated his writing and had formed the group Obstrukt. The group performed throughout events such NAIDOC day, Hyde Park Hotel, Survival Day, Ngalang Koorlak and the Too Solid Festival. Once the group disbanded Jamahl ventured into a solo career which saw him at gigs such as Raise The Roof, Mom’s spaghetti and Lyrical Flavour. Jamahl has been working lately towards dropping his debut album, Defy Reality, which will be the latest addition of many grand things to come.
