Recording of my Live Act at Jardim Sonoro, in Lisbon. I used two controllers to control Ableton (108 knobs & 12 buttons) and an Erica Synths Perkons (also processed in Ableton in real time). 95‰ of the synth ideas you hear were created in the moment. No scene launch in ableton whatsoever. Let me know if you find the 5% pre recorded beats :D

It’s a completely raw recording, no level adjustment, no mastering and no editing (yes you can hear a little crash on my computer near the end).

From London’s inner suburbs comes this next guest, a through and through veteran of UK techno whose touch has left a lasting mark on the world around him. Steve Bicknell’s early days were spent in the intoxicating worlds of dub, reggae, acid, DIY warehouse parties and pirate radio, an auspicious mix of references that would inspire him to make music of his own. After a string of residencies at the UK’s then most influential parties, he launched his own series with creative collaborator Sheree Rashit: LOST. These legendary gatherings brought together names like Plaid, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Robert Leiner, Basic Channel, and a wider array of future techno hegemons. This was swiftly succeeded with the duo’s launch of imprint Cosmic Records, whose triumph went on to spawn another three successors: LOST (early provider of Bicknell’s dancefloor sounds), Clubtracks (for Chicago-leaning fare) and ID(entity) (a channel for the work of well established music-makers who wanted to release under a secret alias). A nine-year pause in productions came to a halt in the mid 2010s with Steve’s most recent label, 6dimensions, an exploration in sound and the whole spectrum of human emotion. Finally, 2017 saw Steve team up with Luke Slater and David Sumner under the LSD sobriquet, a force for the creation of ‘lysergic machine music’, heavily danceable stuff (just ask ADE, Dekmantel, Awakenings). With a story as full and enduring as Steve’s there’s much to pull from, and only experience in the flesh could attest to the depth and scope of his musical evolution, but it’s clear that the voice he has honed has only become louder and more refined. It’s a techno that’s fully embodied, a blistering percussive barrage that invokes something profoundly human and fundamental. Bassiani Podcast 217 is just a taste of what Steve has to offer, a window onto a world of sound he’s meticulously crafted for over three decades: masterfully layered and piercing sounds that shimmer and relentlessly rise in lockstep with a formidable 4/4 beat.

A true pioneer of the techno scene, Italian DJ and producer Gaetano Parisio needs no introduction but we'll just underline that since his first steps in the then-burgenoning electronic world back in 1992, his influence on the sound hasn't flinched one bit. Responsible for countless seminal releases on the likes of Primate, Zenit, Mosaic, his own structures Conform, ART and Southsoul and a myriad more, Gaetano has been pushing techno in new directions with ultimate drive and devotion to duty. Clocking in with a two-hour trip into his boundary-pushing headspace, the Neapolitan maestro treats us to a wild ride of trampling uptempo funk, sci-fi-indebted flights and further alien-engineered heaters. The forward-looking power of rave in its purest expression.

Exponent of a sound both intrinsically rugged yet layered to mind-altering effect, the British producer has been dishing out unstoppable slices of hi-velocity techno laced with a signature stripped-back, psychedelic edge. This new RYC podcast doesn’t veer off from such a direction and we’re graced with a two-hour mind trip boasting both bass-driven warehouse impact and an elegantly-woven tapestry of abrasive grooves, leaning by turn towards atmospheric elation and on other occasions pushing in the direction of utter fibrous, steel-coated industrial pound. The result is a wilder than wild ride down a smouldering pit of acid-washed hard hitters. Brutal.

Ostgut Ton’s Berghain mix series returns with volume 08 by Fiedel. Available on 12” vinyl are four new exclusive tracks by Electric Indigo, Stefan Rein, rRoxymore and Boris & Fiedel. 

Few figures in Berlin dance music can claim as lasting and multifaceted a presence as longtime Berghain resident Fiedel. A former resident at Berghain forerunner OstGut, the veteran DJ and producer is known by heads for his decades-long influence on left-field techno and bass music in the German capital, particularly as one half of celebrated production duo MMM with Errorsmith, and co-operator of the legendary Wax Treatment parties together with Mark Ernestus of Hard Wax and Basic Channel fame. Indeed, Fiedel’s broad vision of what works on the dance floor is informed by grooves both in and outside the realm of 4/4 – from, acid, electro and jungle to hip-hop, dub und breaks – all subtly present in hybrid forms on previous releases for Ostgut Ton and his own Fiedelone and Fiedeltwo imprints. So it makes sense that the four exclusive tracks he has curated for the 8th edition of the Berghain mix series radiate the same off-kilter, bass-heavy and deep techno sensibility. 

Veteran Viennese producer, activist and DJ Electric Indigo kicks blasts things off with “Registers”, employing her trademark dubby and sample-heavy rhythmic constructions, minor chords and distorted hats. Driving and atmospheric, “Registers” sets the bar high not only for the 12-inch but also as the explosive opener for the mix itself. This is followed on A2 by PURE-TRAXX founder Stefan Rein, whose deep, hypnotic “Panther” transcends techno-tool status with entrancing siren melodies and psychedelic builds and releases. 

French-born, Berlin-based producer rRoxymore takes a sonic left turn on B-Side opener “Tropicalcore”, where bleepy, distorted and complex drum patterns recall both classic DMZ and later post-dubstep funk. Finally, B2 belongs to Fiedel himself, who teams up with fellow veteran Berghain resident and Berlin techno stalwart Boris on “Div’hain”. The track teems with with bubbling bass-lines, cowbells and claps shaped by modular synths, as well as elements of electro and boogie – but jacks hard. It’s a fitting closer to one of the mix series’ most eclectic 12-inches – made by one of Berghain’s most fearless residents.

Boris & Fiedel | Div'hain

Hybris is a state of dissoluteness, of loss of control, of greed and of lustfulness. Following that motto, Wice takes his listeners on a journey through a hybristic process on his second Steinlach EP, which chooses an enchanting and euphemistic entrance into hybris with Absent (No Aggression). Gentle pads create a peaceful and dreamy world that is turned into a fascinating landscape of sound by trippy drums and dopey synths and so pushes wide open the gate to hybris. The threateningly booming HB11 then finally enters the state of hybris: synths and drums pump adrenalin in heads and bodies, dancing turns into greed, the complete lack of control sets in. That lack of control riots towards its peak with the eponymic Hybris, which tears the listener in technoid and gritty manner into the abyiss of hybris and holds him captive down there. Hybris is followed by Nemesis, the devine punishment ending in death: Wice interprets this transition towards Nemesis with Hertz, a playful and breaky good-night kiss, which feels pretty damn good and resonates bittersweetly. As a producer, DJ and label head, Barcelona-based artist @adrianalopez is widely acclaimed as Colombia’s leading techno figure. Starting out in Bogota, where she cut her teeth holding down residencies at Club BarC, Cinema and La Sala whilst performing across her native country’s different cities, Adriana Lopez moved to Spain in 2003 where she quickly made a name for herself throughout Europe and beyond. With years of experience behind her, Lopez's deep understanding of techno is evident in her high quality and tastefulselections: mixing records with technical finesse that has led to appearances at the likes of DGTL Festival (Barcelona, Madrid), Village Underground (London), Faust and Vurt (Seoul), Lux Fragil (Lisbon), Vent (Tokyo), Mondo Disko (Madrid), Basement (New York), Berghain and Tresor (Berlin) and many more. 

Meanwhile, as a producer Lopez has released on Stroboscopic Artefacts, Modularz, Semantica, PoleGroup and Mistress Recordings, as well as remixed Svreca, Pär Grindvik and Spencer Parker on each label owner's respective imprints. Adriana nació en Bogotá y en la actualidad reside en Barcelona. Inició su trayectoria a finales de la década de los 90. Además de haber sido DJ residente de los clubes BarC, Cinema y La Sala en su ciudad natal, actuó en varios eventos en diferentes ciudades colombianas. En 2003 se trasladó a España donde rápidamente se hizo un nombre, no solo a nivel europeo, sino más allá de sus fronteras.

A lo largo de su carrera ha visitado numerosos países y ha actuado en diferentes festivales y clubes emblemáticos, tales como el DGTL Festival (Barcelona, Madrid), Rainbow Serpent Festival (Australia), Vent (Tokyo), Faust (Seúl), Tag (Chengdu), Basement (New York), Berghain y Tresor (Berlín), Concrete (París), Village Underground y Corsica Studios (Londres), Lux Fragil (Lisboa), Grelle Forelle (Viena) y Bauhauz (Nimega), entre muchos otros.

Adriana Lopez es también la directora de su propio sello discográfico, Grey Report, en el que edita su material y el de artistas afines a su sonido.
