Mooge was born in Hargeisa, British Somaliland and hails from the Eidagale subdivision of Garhajis of the larger Isaaq Somali clan. Him and his brother Ahmed Mooge Liibaan starting singing and composing Somali literature at a young age. Him and his brother were members of the Waaberi musical ensemble which was single handedly the most popular music group at the time but before starting his music career he worked as a school teacher. Mooge is regarded by many Somalis to be one of the greatest Somali musicians to have ever lived. He was very popular especially for his abilities on the oud, an instrument he would come to be associated with.

This was a album done by the Skyhigh family, who all hailed from
Minneapolis by way of Somalia. Their debut CD, The Arrival, includes the Somali Anthem Remix, Dheela,
meaning groove, and Dhaqaaji. Alian says, “the title for this (last) song is
Somali and it means ‘move.’ It was taken from an old Somali record and is
connected to our old people. We were influenced by old records and we always
wanted to do a remix of this song.”

“The other thing about the album,” says Jamal, “is we are trying to
tell our stories. The stories of each one of us, how we experience the war-torn
country that’s still going on today, fourteen years…we’re trying to tell them
all the trials we went through.”

Djibouti Classic Songs refers to the musical styles, techniques and sounds of Djibouti. The first major form of modern Djiboutian music began in the mid-1940s, when Djibouti was a part of the French Somaliland. Djiboutian music is characterized by poetry, so that listening to a Djiboutian song is first paying attention to its meaning. The artist rocks the listeners in the cheerfulness of the refrains and the turn of the sentences. Often sung by a couple, a song is played in the form of a sleight of hand between a man and a woman, one recounting his feelings and his love, even his passion for the other, until the other accepts or rejects this offer.

The Djiboutian song is also distinguished by the "Gouux", a deep and sensual voice which highlights the artist's passion for his work.
