Escape From Frankfurt

Okay, a massive departure, at least in terms of how it was made - I bought an iPad last year because I had been tempted by Korg Gadget for years. I don't like the workflow as much as Caustic but the gadgets (i.e. synths) are amazing. This is the first track I've 'finished' since I started using Gadget last Summer! Given a polish in Caustic Mastering to add a little zing.

Litmus Test

An old-school-ish techno thumper, written, recorded and mixed with Caustic 3. Needs tidying up but I just wanted to get it out there - too impatient I guess. Happy New Year ;)

Automaton (short mix)

A contemplative tune built around 2 Modular Synth patches - a shift from four to the floor and another experiment with glitchier sounds and beats.

The Machines Are Dreaming

Goan Currywurst

New track, came together quickly, probably a little too quickly. Relentless, repetitive, a Bitcrusher or Distortion FX on each drum track. Fuzzy indeed.

Fuzzy Nation

An attempt at a tech-house type vibe, and another track using a 'text to speech' app and a vocoder, this time using a Polish voice from Google TTS to speak English. I started it in January and finally felt inspired to give it a quick polish and finish a mix at the weekend.

Fifteen

Second end to end in the box track with the Akai Force - the arrangement was recorded live and then the automation recorded on top. The arrangement is solid, the automation less so!

Eighteen

Been on the back burner for a while but I'm glad I stuck with it - the track was inspired by a Modular patch created for Caustic 3 by https://soundcloud.com/skarabee-1.  It was also inspired by a heroic set of techno 12" released under the name 'Planet of Drums' by Tim Taylor.

Twenty In Dub

The image is a joke because on the weak > strong acid scale this is definitely on the mild side! I normally use the square wave from because I'm simply obsessed with it so this was a bit of a departure into a sawtooth jam.

A trippy, hypnotic techno / trance thing. Or at least what trance music should sound like ;) Maybe with a slight post-punk feel, or Daft Punk circa 'Alive'.

Shapeshifter

The FM Bass synth that leads reminded me of the sounds from LFO's debut album, Frequencies from 1992 - I decided to emphasise this and even added a Speak & Spell machine for that old-school LFO feel!
Mark Bell sadly passed away in 2014 - he worked with Bjork as a producer and as part of her touring band, and resurrected the LFO name in 2003.

Hybrid Shapes

Something else that's been in my WIP folder for around 18 months - one of two branches. This is the trancier, more ethereal branch. Moody, mysterious trancey techno - kinda my signature sound.

More moody electronics - whenever I go away for more than a night I have a laptop or tablet with me and generally start a new piece of music. This was started in Greenwich, South London near the O2 Arena when I was there for the Massive Attack show.

Somewhere between Tech House and Deep House - mostly made with FM Synths which are one of my most underused synths in Caustic 3.2.

Panacea

Recent tracks were made with the Akai Force, a Behringer TD-3 and the modded out version of the TD-3. Anything from 2022 or earlier were made using the mobile DAW Caustic from Single Cell Software. http://www.singlecellsoftware.com. It's designed for Android (and iOS). Tracks between 2022 and 2016 were made using Caustic on a Google Pixel C tablet, older tracks were made on a Nexus 9, ancient tracks were made using Caustic on a Nexus 7 or an awful but cheap 7" Android tablet.
