For episode 059 I wanted to create a hybrid set up and challenge myself to something different. I used two digital decks and two cdj's to play this set utilizing four decks at times and adding a ton of percussion samples, remix sets and stems throughout the entire set along with some of my favorite tracks. This was alot of fun. Not a perfect mix by any means but the amount of concentration was intense at times! Especially melting a little bit! Hope you enjoy!

Honored to once again pull records from my collection to provide the morning vibes for Viva's Breakfast Jam series (streaming on Twitch every Saturday from 9-12pm Pacific). For this set, we embark on a 3 hour journey of downtempo, chillout, tripout, and experimental vibes from artists: Art of Noise, Spacetime Continuum, Single Cell Orchestra, Orbital, The Orb, Aphex Twin, and various badorb releases.

We've wanted a mix from this skilled master of the late night vibes for some time and he delivers with this well crafted psychedelic mix that is a perfect fit for the wee hours after raving. Shaun has been a longtime fan of Wicked (like us at Innerflight) and we are happy to have him play along with a legend and ace of the craft, Jenö. Innerflight Broadcast 171: Shaun Whitcher

Something a little different for ya.  Me at my moodiest.  In more recent years I apply tags to my tracks of different vibes so that I can organize my massive music collection better.  One of the biggest categories is 'Moody.'  

Of course a lot of people going out on Friday and Saturday night to my gigs are out to celebrate, so this category doesn't get as much play live as more funky upbeat rhythms.  As such it's somewhat underrepresented on my Soundcloud.

Well not anymore :). I'm dedicated to releasing more sets this year and I see this one as the start of a series.  Welcome to Ben Annand Moody AF :). 

The opener of this series is an opening set I played on a Sunday night from 9-11pm. It's actually just the first hour, 9-10.  It's ok to be moody when people are settling in :). It was also November just after the time change and loss of light... the beginning of the moody season in Eugene :)

An opening set is always interesting musically (or should be) because you get to start from scratch, and set the tone for the whole night.  So it's always a set that should be played with intention.

In this particular case, I was in a sensitive space because I had taken some really nasty criticism from the organizer of an event recently before.  I won't go into detail but it was very tactlessly and cruelly delivered.  So of course that affected my headspace both in terms of insecurity, and in terms of wanting to deliver a great set since I didn't entirely disagree with the criticism so much as I was hurt by the tone from a supposed friend.

So why am I telling you this?  Because this set is moody as fuck!  It opens with a lush vocal track that really spoke to me when my marriage suddenly went up into smoke. I find this track really intense so I haven't played it much but at home.   

The mix stays deep and moody, gradually building energy then wavering then building.  It's super trippy, a little dark/melancholy for me, but still house and totally danceable of course :)

So with all that said, I hope you enjoy this one and I will keep em coming!

There are times when your ass needs to cash the checks your mouth wrote. After 17 years digital, it was time to mix an all-vinyl set, thanks to Brit's 90s black light birthday rave. There were train wrecks but it was fun and a massive adrenaline rush when I landed a mix right. (This is not the live set, but the test mix with the same rekkids, recorded at home.)

❤️‍🔥 Sunday nights in Seattle means one thing: Flammable. For 30 years, Flamm has been our friends&fam tradition of house music to close out the weekend. Weekly dance church, served hot.

This past winter solstice 2023, I played a fun set at Flamm that I decided to whip up into an otter-style 4-hour House buffet, including many tracks I didn't get to play that night. Bon appetit! ❤️‍🔥

This deep melodic house mix has been curated and groomed from a handful of tracks that have really spoken to me over the past few weeks. When it comes down to house music its a refection of my character and emotional being. I have always had a strong attraction for the moodier and deeper side of the record bin and have always found myself incredibly drawn to really deep melodic sounds. When I consider composing a set and piecing together tracks, I always find myself falling into a spacey trippy vibe and include songs with haunting vocals, tribal-esque rhythm progressions and deep melodic elements. This mix resonates with my taste preference and where I always love to fall into. Thank you for listening!

This set was recorded live in 2015 and used for submission to Robot Heart in hopes to secure a slot @ the second year of Further Future. Amazing location in the desert hosted by the Moapa band of Paiute Indians tribe an hour north of Las Vegas. What an incredible party, thats all I can say. I met some of the kindest people, partied with some of the biggest movers and shakers, hugged a lot of icons that I admire and adore in the scene, and danced my fucking ass off. That week will go down as one of the best memories ever. This set has never been shared and I can honestly say I have listened to it dozens of times and it brings me back every time. I really hope you enjoy listening. There were so many moments meeting incredible souls and connecting with so many heads. Truly reinforces the connection we all have with the music. Pure magic.

I was born an audiophile and have always been listening. When I was a young boy my safety blanket was a pair of old headphones and a gain knob within reach during nap times and still is after over four decades today. Theres nothing more comforting than sub sonic bass frequencies and a bouncing mid range sprinkled with a melodic high end to soothe any and every emotion. When it comes to music and audio in general, it has a way of carrying us off and elevating our spirits every single time we close our eyes and just listen. Tribal rhythm and drums is where it all started for me growing up as a local northwest native american. My tribal roots run deep and I incorporate my heritage into every set I play by layering in ethnomusic percussion, in a sense grounding my sound back to where it all began for me as a child. I am a fan of trippy, weird, spacey sounds and thats probably why I love sound design so much. Every chance I get, I am going to create a soundscape that takes you on an emotional and spiritual journey. I play music in hopes to make an immediate connection with my listener and help them to find ways to make a deeper connection within themselves. Music is my weapon against all of the chaos and animosity in this world that we live in. I hope to only elevate you while you give me your ears.
